  • scoliosis in autistic child

My son is a 14 year old autistic child just diagnosed with scoliosis. I'm doubtful that he would tolerate a brace. Has anyone dealt with a similar circumstance?

There was a lady who posted a few times a while back on spinekids.com and I think she may have also posted here. I believe her screen name was "Punta" . I'm pretty sure her teenage son is autistic and he had also underwent spinal fusion surgery. He may also have worn a brace, sorry I don't remember it's been a while since I've seen her post. You can always try clicking on "search" at the top of the page - type in autistic and maybe that will bring something up. Hope this was kinda sorta helpful

I don't have any experience with a teenage boy who is autistic and has scoliosis. I would think you need to sit down with the orthopedist/scoliosis specialist and make sure they understand what life is like for him/you. Find out what the degree of scoliosis is. Does he have any other medical condition that would complicate scoliosis treatment? Things like that. Communication is the best way to get the right care at the right time. Good luck.
