  • Waste of time doctor's visit

Yesterday I had my yearly scoliosis check-up that was supposed to consist of x-rays. It didn't. I'm so sad because I wanted to know if my spine has moved at all in the past year. It had moved 15 degrees in 4 years and I was so anticipating finding out if it had moved at all this year so I could find out if surgery was going to be in my future or not. My doctor told me to come back in February 2005 for x-rays. I'm in a lot of pain and this is frustrating. I feel like I'm stuck for the rest of my life. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm doing pilates, but they don't help the pain.

Have you ever had a second, or even third opinion? I don't understand why your doctor didn't x-ray you especially if you are only being seen once a year or so! My daughter was seen for a doctor appointment where they x-rayed her and was seen again three weeks later and they wanted to re-xray her! Maybe you should call the office and ask for an explanation. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I might go for a third opinion. A lot of people have suggested that. My curve was only 33 degrees last year so it's probably 35 or 36 now. I'm just in a lot of pain and my shirts tend to twist because of my rib hump. I'm currently a pharmacy major and I've been thinking that I should go into scoliosis research and find a solution for all of us who are in pain but can't have surgery I think I'll stick with pharmacy.

      Thanks again!

I can really sympathize with you - I have found that in order to get anything accomplished I have had to either sak for the tests myself or at least find the ones needed. It seems that most Dr's don't seem to feel that scoliosis is much to be concerned about. My curves ahd stayed quite stble for years and at 40 started t om ove and have progressed about 20 degrees in 8 years. I suffer from pain 24/7 and take narcotics and such to make life livable. Lately I have done some research of my own to get some info on the numbers and such of surgery on adults and there appears to be good results so I have found a couple of names in my area to look into. I saw one specialist in Toronto who basically made me feel like a fool for even going and one here in OShawa who told me that scoliosis was not a painful condition - yeah right. I have never found physio much use allthough swimming was good. I am very seriously moving forward to see about surgery as at 50 my life is not very exciting and if taking one year so so to get this done and recover will help then I feel it is definitely worth it for me. Best of luck to you.
