  • Question about brace and clothes!

I am getting a boston brace in like a week, and I am wondering how many clothes sizes if any will I probably have to go up when wearing the brace? I am more worried about the shirts, the pants well I will have to try them on anywayz because depending on what company, I have the hardest time with pants because I am so thin like since I am a I am usually a small/xsmall shirt what size will I be in the brace basically in a nutshell.

I'm not sure about specific sizes or anything but the clothes that I live in are stretch pants which dont really have sizes and sweat shirts and jackets......Good luck with the clothes. Also you probably know this but you have to wear undershirts under your brace, I wear tanktops, not t-shirts. The first week if one side of your brace is raised (mine is, not sure about yours) you might get bumps in your armpit, but eventually your skin gets used to them. And if you are having a hard time sleeping at night, I suggest sleeping with a pillow (small) between your legs, it helps me. You can ask me any questions if you have some.

      Hi Sarah~

My daughter has worn a Milwaukee brace and just got a Boston brace today and she really never had much problem with shirts. She never wore her shirts tight so we didn't buy her shirt any larger than usual. Her Milwaukee brace did tend to make small holes in her shirt though and that was only because of all the metal. As for pants, my daughter is like you--very slim. She hasn't been wearing jeans with her brace because they would be so baggy for her if we went to a bigger size to accomodate her brace. She found wonderful pants that are similiar to sweat pants at the Gap. Good luck. You will do just fine!

                      Sarah,

My daughter has been in the Boston brace since Nov..
The clothes to wear was a most difficult issue.

We have now successfully put that task behind us.
Like you my daughter is petite. She wore a size 10 or 12
                      jean and a xs/s shirt.

Here's what we do. She wears the brace over her jeans.
(The doctor said this was fine.)

We have found success with Aeropostle clothes ( Do you
know this brand?). Light weight sweatshirts cover
everything and are also the style and are comfortable. A size
med or large does the trick and doesn't look out of place either.
Old Navy, as well, has been a help...size 16 works there.

Some shirts I have been able to lengthen. With the layer
look in (ie; a tee shirt with white sleeves attached) I added
a white bottom piece to the shirt making it look like it's
all one shirt. My daughter loves it!!!! The easist way to do
this is take an old white shirt similiar in material (ie: a turtleneck,
tee shirt etc.) and cut the bottom off it, about 5 inches will do
and attach it to the bottom new shirt. This way the new piece you are attaching already is hemmed. Now you have gained
about 3-4 inches in length! And it looks like it's all part of
                      th original shirt.

                      I hope this has helped!
