  • i'm not sure if i have scoliosis but....

My name is Felicia. My husband is 17 and he thinks he may have scoliosis. His ribs on his right side stick out more than the other side. He's been saying for a while that his posture was messed up because he was fat when he was little (yeah i know crazy ). i didn't believe it at first when he told me. Until I looked at the bulletins. And now I think it migt be true. I hope that someone can tell me how they thought they might have it or any similir experiences to his. fell free to email us at fairyinmycloset@aol.com i'll be waitin g.

one of the easiest ways to tell if someone has scoliosis or not is to get them to do the bend over test. stand behind them and get them to bend over, with their palms together and put their hands between their knees. spines should run in a straight line - if there is unevenness, one shoulder is higher than the other, ribs form a "hump" etc, there is possibly something wrong and the next step is to visit a scoliosis specialist for xrays and further assessment

What exactly is a 'hump' in the ribs. me and my husband were both wondering about that. his right side sticks out ore than the other side and he slouches alot. His hips are somewhat uneven...so yeah.

that could possibly be it. it's where your ribs should be flat and follow the natural path of your body but in the case of a hump, they're not. hip and shoulder unevenness and asymetry is common. if you're not sure, compare him to someone you know who doesn't have scoliosis by bending them both over.

before he noticed the uneveness in his ribs he had lots of chest pain.... i had asked him to go to the doctor about it and he said he would but never did. then the hump just kinda appeard in his rib cage. oh yeah and his right shoulder seems to be higher than the left one.

            Hi...

Here are some resources to help you figure things out:

            http://www.iscoliosis.com/articles-screening.html

Also, this paper clearly shows what a rib hump is:
