  • Searching for Florida Surgeon

I am 50yr. and just found out last week that my lunbar scoliosis has progressed to 53 degrees and that I will need surgery. A bachache for the past month is what prompted me to see an orthopedist. I wore a Milwaukee brace for 7 years when I was 13yrs. old. I'm looking for 2 more opinions in the sate of Florida. Tampa/St.Pete area would be most convenient, however, I will travel elsewhere in the state for the best. I am very worried and need to know that the surgeon I choose is well known and well respected for his expertise. Please let me know if you have any experience with a physician(s) in Florida. I welcome any and all responses.

trying to find spine specialist in FL

Hi! I'm trying to find a good doctor somewhere in the state of Florida too. I'm running out of doctors to go to in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I've tried to do a general search on the internet, and asking around. I think there are some doctors from Ft. Myers (Cleveland Clinic) north to Tampa and the Gainsville area that are pretty good and I would try.... I asked my family doc, didn't get too far with him, but a date with an orthopedic surgeon, to have surgery on my shoulder sometime this month. If i find out anything I'll let you know. Good luck!

Dr. Moreno is doing my anterior/posterior fusion on February 9th. he is one of the best in the state and actually teaches others how to do this type of surgery.
He's located at the Florida spine Institute in Clearwater.
36 year old single mom of teens ages 14 & 15.
Anterior/posterior spinal fusion on February 9th & 16th 2006 with Dr. Anthony Moreno who now has his own practice.
Fused from T-3 to S-1 (sacrum)
        Curve pre-op = 70 degrees
Curve post op = 20 degrees
        No pain anymore!!

          Spine specialists in South Florida

Hello all. I'm a 44 yo female, had surgery at 14 and now need additional surgery. Harrington rod fused to L4. Saw ortho last week in Ft. Lauderdale -- Michael Weiss. He is an ortho surgeon and would allow any spine surgeon in Broward County to operate on his back. But for my problem (degeneration, scoliosis below the rod, lateral listhesis, etc.) he recommends going to University of Miami. He gave me the names of three physicians there: Mark Brown (305-243-6725), Frank Eismont (305-585-7138) and Nathan Lebwohn (305-585-7138). I have not yet scheduled an appointment with any of these but wanted to pass on the info anyway.

I have since seen Dr. Anthony Moreno in Clearwater,FL. He has a great manner. I liked him very well. He gave me an optimistic look on my condition, much unlike the previous surgeon I had seen. He told me not to act hastily and get another xray in a couple years to check for any progression in my curvature. He also told me there is a posibility I may never need surgery. He sent me to P.T. which worked wonders for my backaches!!! I would recommend him to anyone.
            Thanks for your replies.

You are so right about his manners. He was so nice when I met him. I sat crying in his office because he was the first surgeon in 5 years who said he could help me and unlike all the others who said I was too old for fusion, he said I was an excellent candidate.
So I'm sitting there with tears streaming down my face and he grabbed my hand and told me my pain will be gone, I'll have my life back, I'm not too old to get this and have a great life after and not to worry. He was so kind and you could see and hear and feel his sincerity with every word he said.

Katblack, I wish you well. I feel you are in good hands. I know of people who have had successful scoliosis surgery in their 60s.

Thank you all for the doctors. While I'm still over here in Ft. Lauderdale, I'll try the doctors that was listed. I just want another opinion from a doctor that seems a little interested in me, before I end up doing more damage.
