What is considered normal and abnormal kyphosis?

  • #2
    Hi...

According to Michael Neuwirth in "The Scoliosis Sourcebook," abnormal scoliosis is anything below 20 degrees or above 50 degrees.

      Hi,
I believe that a normal thoracic kyphosis falls in the range of 30-40 degrees. A hyperkyphotic (i.e. hunchbacked) spine is one with an angle > 40 degrees, AFAIK.

      Ta,
      Martin Hughes

OOPS... just realized that I typed SCOLIOSIS in my post above. Should be KYPHOSIS. That is: According to Michael Neuwirth in "The Scoliosis Sourcebook," abnormal KYPHOSIS is anything below 20 degrees or above 50 degrees.
