My name is Amber and I am 15. I've had scoliosis for a year and I have noticed changes. One side of my rib cage sticks out a little more than the other and my shoulderblade looks higher than my other one. How do they determine whether or not you get surgery? I've never been told how many degrees my spine is curved. Does it sound like I might be going down the road for surgery if things keep worsening?

You are going for check ups every six months or so, right? Your doctor needs to see your curve's progress.

I guess you can't know if you need surgery or not if you don't know the degree, but definitely ask you doctor next time you see him/her.

If your spine keeps worsening, there is a step before surgery: bracing.
I'm Karin. I had surgery for my scoliosis on October 13, 2005, and am doing well! I formerly wore a providence brace and did PT for treatment.
