View Full Version : How High Would You Go?

My daughter is getting married in October, my mother of the bride dress is ordered, but I'm in a quandary about the heel height for shoes I am considering. I'd love to wear a 2" heel, partly for fun and partly because I am so much shorter than the other members of my family.

I'm going to order a custom pair of ballroom dance shoes as the width is custom sized, so they fit snugly, like a second skin for maximum stability. Also, you can choose the exact heel you want, both in height and width. I used to dance, so I am familiar with this type of shoe, which typically has straps to hold it firmly in place.

My problem is that right now, almost 6 months postoperative, even a slight heel makes my back more sore, so I am mainly wearing shoes that are flat as a pancake to work, and I mean really flat.

I'd really like to know how successful everybody has been wearing small heels after surgery and how long it took for it to be comfortable. Not really sure how much I'll be standing at the wedding, it's indoors, but I'm sure there will be some standing around chatting.

I'm even considering having two pairs of shoes and wearing the heels for pictures and then changing to flats. Thoughts?

Best wishes for your daughter's wedding. As I was reading your post, I kept thinking: 2 pairs of shoes. You came up with the solution! Have fun & wear your flats for the reception!

So funny - I didn't think of having two pairs until I started writing. I'll probably only last a minute in heels but I am really curious if anyone has gone back to wearing heels at any point after surgery. It IS fun to dress up!

I think 2 pair is the perfect answer. I would definitely not spend any amount of time walking around in heels at this stage. I did 2" heels at a party many years after my original surgery. By the time I got back to my hotel room, the spasm in my back was more severe than I've ever felt before. It was the last time I wore anything but flats.

Thanks for the reality check, Linda. Sounds like I'll probably never wear those 2" heels again, so perhaps a dumb idea. Maybe I'll try a 1" heel and a flat pair in hopes I might actually be able to wear them again someday.
