Julie Wilkins, the yoga teacher in Alabama who has had a T3 to L3 spinal fusion for scoliosis, has put out the new 30 minute video she promised! It is specifically for people who have had scoliosis spinal fusions. As far as I know, it is the only video of it's kind for and by someone who has had the surgery.
Go to her website: www.juliewilkinsyoga.com and click on "videos". It is only ten dollars.

I first found out about Julie from an old posting on this site, and after watching her incredible demonstration video on youtube -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouVZedOCNW0 - I was so inspired that I contacted her. After corresponding with me, she made a series of free short videos and then...the complete 30 minute one, which I just purchased.

I thought it was WELL worth the ten dollars, and I thank Julie for caring so much about those of us with fused spines.

I am excited about getting started. Thank you, Julie!

How long a fusion can one have and still use this exercise tape?

I have been working with the Julie Wilkins video. You could email her, but as far as I can see, there is only one part of the tape where she says "if your sacrum is fused, please skip this part." And that is the mini-cobra pose.

Best to you,

yes, I am so excited to see this option because I want to know about what to do after surgery for my son. How do you keep a healthy spine on what few mobile vertebra he may have left. What can you do to protect the L4,L5? Concerned about Distal adding on, certainly will talk to the doctors about it.

I wonder how long Julie is Post Op and how recovery/life has been for her spine?

Gonna order the DVD and just see! :) Thanks for sharing!

This sounds great. I'm 3 years post-op & have just gotten into yoga and "pure barre" (a great stretching/toning/strengthening work out..easy on the joints). Pure barre is great, but I need to alter some of the moves to protect my fused spine, so I've been longing for a routine that keeps my back in mind! Will definitely check it out.
