  • At Last... A really great day!

    Hi All,

I'm 5 years post-op, had a rib,5 discs and some hipbone removed in the ant. part of my surgery. 6 Days later, fused T1 to L-5 post. Very rough recovery.

Today I went golfing and I can honestly say that I am back to my pre-surgery form and distance, maybe even better!!! I took 2 Alieve before we left, no pain pills. No pain during the 18 holes played. Got home took 2 more Alieve and I am still okay w/o having to take my vicodin at 1:00am.

This is what I been hoping for for 5 years, I feel blessed.

Seems so trivial, but means a great deal to me,
    Shari

Trivial? Not at all Shari. This is fantastic news. It's great to hear you so happy and living life to the fullest. I wonder how many of us will be around for our 10 year anniversary?

          Shari,
Way to go! Keep hitting it long and straight! Have you followed Stacey Lewis on the LPGA tour? She is in the top 20 professionals this year on the money list and had scoliosis surgery right before college. I wish I didn't have to be fused to the sacrum and I'd feel better about being able to pivot post surgery.
          Congratulations on your golf game.

Good for you Shari. It is always great to hear this kind of success, especially 5 years down the road. I am 2 2/3 years down the road and thought it might be fun to try a little golf since we now live in a retirement community with a golf course. You give me hope. I'll definitely need some lessons.

Great for you Shari. I was watching golf today on TV and wondered if I can become a better golfer after my neck surgery since my neck can't move around now. Ha. Probably not after my t-2 to pelvis surgery.

                So happy for you.

Thank you all for your support and not thinking it's so trivial!!! I have been playing for the last 3 years, but I never felt like I was ever going to get to where I was before my surgery.

I went w/ my ex-husband, only my third time out this year, and I was completely amazed, and I think he was too. I said a prayer to give thanks, almost at every other hole. I think I'm still in shock to some degree today. I think I've mentally played those 18 hole over and over today. I just can't believe it finally happened!!!

Thanks again for all the support, and not thinking I need some sort of mental health therapy.

                    Really happy and proud,
                    Shari
Gotta love this forum for understanding milestones!!! Thanks again!!!

                        Thank you Shari,
I may take some time, but there really is light at the end of the tunnel. It just takes some of us longer than others. It is kind of a silly thread to start, but I had to tell someone.

                          Sooo not silly!

There is a world of "pre-fusers" (or refusers) out here who know what's coming and have read the bad news....so rather than watch the happy post-surgery people disappear into the sunset, it is infinitely reassuring to read the great news, even if it takes awhile.

Not trivial at all, Shari. It's really important! Thank you for chiming in after many years of healing. I appreciate it so much.
