  • Attention research scientists!

    http://www.rgj.com/article/20100816/NEWS/100816063

We have it happening here! Dr Barsky says it’s the best state of the art facility he has ever seen.

Once again, I will repeat, we are a very high tech state!

These are really neat facilities. There's an open lab space building at Stanford (not my lab). I can see how it would be pretty cool but can also see some issues with it. I ultimately don't have enough wet lab experience to know if people really like the open lab design or not.

There now needs to be the same type of effort for clinical trials. Then combine the two. Although, I guess you call that a hospital.

Well, I'm not a research scientist..but I read the article anyway!

"Last year, Whittemore Peterson Institute scientists discovered XMRV, which is only the third infectious human retrovirus ever found, in a majority of patients suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome."

This is really wonderful news! I never heard about that discovery. Awesome!! Thanks for posting the article titaniumed.

Hey Ti Ed, a graduate student helping me on a research project I am conducting recently returned from two weeks in Reno where he went to learn how to analyze his samples on a particluar instrument there. The instrument isn't only in Reno but his advisor had a connection there.

So I have to agree Reno is a hot spot for research.

That lab sounds exciting. I think it's reasonable that the increased interaction between folks in different fields will be able to develop ideas and strategies that they might otherwise not have. And why not Reno?
