  • Inversion table

I apologize if I put this in the wrong place, feel free to move it where you like.
I well find it where ever it is :P

I just give you a bit of back ground on me.
I had surgery for scoliosis when I was 18. I am 35 now.
They put rods in the top half of my back but not the bottom half.
I have a doable curve that is very noticeable with out any top on and I have a prompt right shoulder that is noticeable even with a top on.

I don't know the degree of my curve as Ive not had that looked at in a lot of years now. I do still think the bottom half of my spine moves around to how am feeling. My back cracks all the time. Its when it doesn't crack that it can hurt some times I get pain.

I have just burt myself an Inversion table to see if this can be of any benefit to me. Am not sure if its working or not but Ive not had it a day yet.
I was wondering if anyone else here has tried this hanging up side down thing and if they have had any luck with it. Am hoping I well not make anything woes.

I do try and exercise on my push bike sometimes but get out of breath faster then I should and I have just recently been trying to strengthen my stomach mussels as I have very weak stomach mussels and when I get tied I do tend to go moor over moor. Its seems to be making me stronger to stay moor up right now Ive strengthen my stomach a bit.

Just looking for advice and anything else I could be doing to help on here really

Well no replies but anyway. just in case someone reads this and wonders if it did me any good it did not.

It left me in some pain for about a week after only using it for 2 days.
I re-sold it after only a few days of having it.

So for me it was no good.

I knew someone years ago who said his inversion table kept him from the operating table. But he didn't have scoliosis.

I suspect it might be a bit hard on your muscles, being stretched with the full weight of your body. It sounds good in principle, but after you're fused, I think it could do quite a bit of damage.

My parents purchased an inversion table for my sister years ago at the advice of a Chiropractor because he said wearing a "hot brace was cruel". She now has a 62 degree curve and a lot of back pain. That's my only experience. So, I cringe when I hear/see one of those things but that's just my bias.

Yes it did sound good in principle.
I thought it might help the bottom of my back.
But ye some muscles are scratched and others are cramped up so I guss that's one reason why it hurt.
sometimes like when you start to do a new exercise you've never done be for it can hurt but you carry on and it gets better. This was not like that through it was a different pain and I don't think it was doing me any good at all.

Maybe it would help some ppl and maybe it did not me cos I am already fused in the top half of my spine.
But I wont be trying one again even though I did have to see if it could have helped any.

            I can understand that.
Still it may not had been the table that did that but ye it makes you wonder.

This for me is one of those things that sound very good in principle but not at all in practice.

I think if your trying to stretch muscles then you have to do it gently.
Like when I was in traction for 3 months for my OP I had wights that went up to 30 something pound eventually. They add a little bit moor every day tell it got to that. I think to try stuff like this you really have to be specialised in doing it correct.

That's what am taking away from the experience in trying this anyway.

              Inversion Table

              Thanks for posting, Juno.

I was thinking about getting an inversion table, at least for me. My daughter has scoliosis. I dont know if it would work for her, but I have a lot of back pain myself and thought maybe it would help, and then if it helped me, maybe my daughter could try it. Course there's always the chance it could make it worse. What are we supposed to do, ya know?

Does anyone have experience with it? Thanks

We use an inversion table, and I like it. It stretches out the back. There is some breaking in period. Initially a short amount of time about 5 minutes and your not completely upside down. So its a gentle stretch at slight incline or should I say decline? Anyway, I did not notice any improvement in my dd back with its use.

The table takes up significant amount of space and takes time to use. If you asked her did it help her back, she would say sorta....it felt good but not worth her effort. I find most of her PT is a big chore for her time.

It does come with a warning and I believe if you have some fusion or rods in placed that you would want drs approval before use.

Although this activity is safe we recommend seeking professional medical advice for example from your doctor before using inversion therapy equipment. The following are contraindications for inversion therapy (should not be done): pregnancy, hernia, glaucoma, retinal detachment, conjunctivitis, high blood pressure, recent stroke, heart or circulatory disorders, spinal injury, cerebal sclerosis, swollen joints, osteoporosis, unhealed fractures, surgically implanted supports, use of anticoagulants, ear infection and obesity.
