  • disks pain

I am having extreme pain in my back, from neck to tail bone. I do have scoliosis and now also have slipped disks, one in middle and one in lower. Is there really any cure for the pain (excluding operations) or will I have to live with it the rest of my life? The doctors say no more lifting over 10 pounds. And now I have have spasms every day, can't bend, stand, walk, sleep for long period of time. I wish there was somthing for this pain, its getting to be too much...

    disk pain

Hi! I'm sorry to hear about your pain

I have experienced severe pain from a disk in my low back for the past 15 months. You should try to get into a Pain Management clinic, if it is possible in your area. I'm not sure where you are, but there are usually Pain Management specialists in any major city and especially in university or research hospitals. You should ask your MD if there is one close to you. These clinics usually have a lot of demand for back pain management, and there are a number of "alternative" options that may be available to you (depending on your personal case), including spinal injections / nerve blocks, low-dose anti-depressants for pain management, physical therapy, etc.

I had to see a few specialists before finding one who I liked and trusted, but it was well worth the effort. See if you can do a bit of research on who is around in your area, and begin the search for management solutions. There are many things to try nowadays, and the thing to do is to begin to try them out.

I personally was in the minority in not having relief from spinal injections. But the low-dose anti-depressants (Elavil) really helped me out (and continue to do so). Also, I found some relief from Rolfing, which is an expensive "alternative" therapy, but one which seemed to help me turn a corner with my pain level. You can look the official Rolfing website up online. I also took a class in mindfulness meditation, which was extremely helpful in allowing me to relax physically and bear the constant pain.

If I were you, I would also ask my MD if you should see a surgeon for the scoliosis, if you are not under monitoring for it already. It sounds like you are in a lot of pain, and determining the exact cause (if that is possible) would be really helpful to everyone trying to treat you.

All the very best starting to find your answers. Feel free to contact me privately if you would like. For a long time I did not believe I would ever be free from pain. I am currently only having intermittent, mild pain on a daily basis, and am more pain-free than I ever thought would be possible. On good days I can do 15 minutes exercise on the elliptical trainer, and I can stand and walk for much longer periods of time than before. I hope this might make you feel a little bit better as you try to manage your pain. Believing it will get better is half the battle. Take care.

      I have disc pain also

have daily pain due to scoliosis .The scoiliosis ,is causing a disc to bulge. Had an injection few months ago, which helped some, but still have alot of lower back pain.I bought an inversion table which helps decompress my spine temporarily and gives some relief temporarily. Use that 3 times per day. I am now back to taking percocet again to help manage pain. That helps, but I don';t like the idea of taking pain meds regularily. May come to that yet though.I am now looking into trying acupuncture, but so far,not finding any permanent relief. I find myself doing less and less, wlaking standing, etc, because it hurts too much.I find myself constantly adjusting everday things to manage the pain ,which wears you down. I started percocet again, and my just have to take them every 4 hours everday,or otherwise deal with constant pain and tightness in my lower back.
