  • I suspect they'll offer you conscious sedation. When I've had injections, I opted for no sedation, and I can tell you that unless you're really pain intolerant, you won't need it. Other than the fact that I was a little uncomfortable having to lay face down for about 15 minutes, the only pain I had was a few seconds long.

    Hope the injection helps.

        • I had the epidural today .No relief yet but we shall see.But the CTScans showed this" that there is some narrowing around the nerve. It is only relatively narrowed since part of the narrowing is some bone spurring and some is the swollen and enlarged nerve. At least I feel better knowing there is a real reason for my pain.

Thanks everyone for their good wishes

          • Hi Melissa

The nerves can be real buggers, they can take a long time to heal. If its inflamed, it probably best to take things real slow for awhile. Its so hard when they are enlarged and so tender from surgery.

The way I experienced nerve pain was like a light switch, on with extreme pain, or off. Nothing in between.

Soon you should start feeling better. My first 6 weeks were pretty rough, then had a “bump” and felt 20% better. Hang in there, your getting through the hardest part. Anterior’s can be rough, but you are going to make it.

                  • I did forgot one part of Dr Bederman's email about my CATScan. If the epidural does not do any thing , The alternative is to surgically decompress the nerve by
removing the bone spurs. So there is a possibility that I will be having more surgery

                    • Will be keeping my fingers crossed that the pain is all from that nerve. Do you know what level it is?

                      • hi Melissa
                        sorry i missed your question...
i never got relief from epidural shot...i have had relief from other shots...
in my case, they kick in pretty fast when they help...but every body is different...
i never have had sedation for a shot....
the ones that hurt me went into narrow spaces, with stenosis causing the narrowing...
when the fluid had to go into a narrow space, it hurt, but tolerable....

i hope you get relief from the injection...
most doctors told me to give the shots a week or two...
but with me, i feel relief in a few days...for example, sacroiliac joint injections give me
                        relief by the next day....

                        hope your relief comes fast!

                            • Hi Melissa. It would definitely help emotionally, to know you have a physical reason for your pain. If you have to have more surgery (you poor darling) I hope you will get immediate relief this time. We're all hanging in here waiting and hoping for the best. You'll get there!

                              • Last night sleeping was worse than before. All I did was toss and turn because I could not find any comfortable position. The injection site was so uncomfortable
to lie on. The pain in my left leg was more then before. I am really trying to keep my spirits up but it is not easy. The throught of another surgery is not very
pleasant ,meaning it would be surgery # 6 in less than 18 months

                                Thanks for your good wishes
