please try not to be mad at yourself
the surgeon felt the September surgery was important...
i know you will start to feel better soon...
try to remember how much you have been thru...how far you have come...
even being in pain, you now have a great surgeon....
he will stick with you until you are better....
    that should bring some reassurance....
    just try to hold on

It depends entirely on where the pain is. This chart is how the doctor tries to figure out where the spinal cord or nerve root is being pinched:

I cannot open it. Will the CTScan that I am having earlier in the day help?

What I am having is a caudal epidural.

        • i think caudal epidural concentrates on the nerve space around L5-S1...

i have had 3 epidural injections in my days of tx...
but they didn't help me, as my pain was caused by structural problem, not a nerve
problem at the time i was given the shots

i was told by several doctors that epidural injections work best on pain related to nerves and soft tissue....

the only shots that help my lower back pain now are sacroiliac joint injections...
no doctor or surgeon has figured out why...i suspect it is related to pain
          coming from disc degeneration...
but that is just my guess....

i bet the epidural injection you get Tuesday does help your pain, Melissa....
sounds like you've got nerves involved with your current pain....
i hope the shot gives you relief...

          best of luck...

          • Hi...

Not sure why you can't "open" it. You should be able to just click on the link. Copying and pasting probably won't work because vBulletin shortens the URLs for display.

I'm not sure if the CT will help with the injection or not. My physiatrist gets MRIs prior to injections whenever possible. CTs aren't very good at showing nerve roots.

If you click the link, after it fails to open, type in an "h" at the beginning of the IP address. Somehow the "http" was shortened to "ttp" which is why the link won't open.

                          • Melissa,

I've been following you for a week or so, and I wanted to tell you that I whole-heartedly agree with some of the advice you've been given. I have faith that your pain level will subside. I also remember reading posts in the middle of the night for moral support! We are here for you and I know you will have some improvements soon!

((Hugs)) and prayers. You have been through enough--things have got to get better.

                            Love,
