  • Looking for protein shake suggestions

    Hey all,

Paula's appetite still stinks and it seems as if it's not getting any better.

People have suggested protein drinks/shakes. Does anyone have a name brand for me that I can get at the store?

    TIA,
    Marian

i think they are supposed to be consumed fresh...i know starbucks makes them now...

also, do you own a juicer? cause they are great for fresh juice, then you can throw that in the blender and add a banana...but if you are too busy, i would suggest picking them up at starbucks...or they may have some in dairy section of store, near where yogurt is...

what about drinking "Ensure"? it has all the nutrients...

    good luck

If you have a health food shop nearby, see if they have protein powder in a tub. You make the shake up according to directions. Isowhey protein is supposedly the best, but be guided by the storeowner as these shakes are usually taken as meal replacements for people who want to lose weight. You will probably need a shake that is balanced with protein and carbohydrates to keep her strength up. They come usually in a variety of flavours, however, i find vanilla is best because, you can add strawberries, bananas or whatever to give it flavour for a change. I am unable to give you brand names as i don't live in the states, but i hope this helps.

I always see guys coming out of the gym with "Muscle Milk" protein shakes. They sell them in a bunch of stores around our campus so I think they would be pretty easy to find. I've never tried them though so I don't know how they taste.

I don't know if this will work, but I've always been told for after workouts to replace proteins to drink chocolate milk or slimfast shakes.

              Thanks, everyone.

I did manage to talk to her GP who said to find something with whey protein and I did at the local drugstore. I got a smaller bag in case she didn't like it.

I also got some Ensure, which dd said didn't really taste that bad.

So she's getting some nutrition now--she said the shakes sounded more appetizing than a full meal. So even if she consumes a few oz. of the shakes, it's better than not eating or munching on saltines.

I knew I could count on you all for suggestions!

              Thanks!

glad the protein shakes are good...they taste really great if you add vanilla yogurt or ice cream (regular or low fat) or fresh fruit..most of the gyms that have cafeterias make shakes for members & put all that stuff in it..they're great for energy & nutrition...also, all the health food stores have lots of versions of powder drinks...for energy, for health, for muscle building, etc...

                best of luck

                    Here you go.

                    Whey protein powder 1 scoop
                    Soy milk 1 cup
                    yogurt 1 cup
                    frozen blueberries 10
                    frozen strawberries 10
                    frozen raspberries 10
                    almonds 20
                    banana 1

Using a blender, add all ingredients, and that should do the trick. Drink right away.

This is a great whey to do it. LOL
                    .
Buy the berries frozen, its easier.
