  • What kind of doctor?

I've had scoliosis for as long as I can remember, and for the last few years the pain in my lower back is getting worse. I would like to find a doctor to try to help me, but I don't know where to start. What kind of doctor am I looking for? I am in pain most of the time, but not enough for me to justify putting myself through surgery. I have thought about going to an orthopedic surgeon, but I'm afraid that they will try to talk me into surgery. Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi...

If you're only interested in getting out of pain, you might want to try a physical therapist who specializes in spine. There are dozens of threads from people that talk about other types of alternative therapy.

While some surgeons might try to talk you into surgery, the best surgeons won't. A good specialist will tell you about conservative measures that you should try before considering surgery. Conservative treatments might include injections. To find a specialist in your area, this is the first place to start:

    Good luck.
