    Morough & Mahood..

I'm from Edmonton, AB and one of my teachers in highschool had revision surgery to fuse the lower part of her back (she had the thoracic region fused years before) We have the same doctors and they operated on my first (and fortunately only) surgery in 2001. Their names are Dr. Morough (sp?) and Dr. Mahood. They're known as the "dream team" and do tons of scoliosis surgeries here in Alberta. Dr. Morough is for individuals under eighteen.. but I know my teacher was about 36 when Mahood operated on her the second time.

    All the best,

    Revision surgery in Ontario

    Hi Wilela,
Dr. Stephen Lewis at Toronto Western Hospital is considered the current best specialist in adult scoliosis treatment in the area -he does revisions regularly. Your family physician can make a referral.
I had a Herrington fusion done 40 years ago in '64 at 15yoa. The distraction rod was removed 4 years later. I have had two sons who are now in their 20's -living a very full life building a home on 3 acres. I anticipate a revision surgery to relieve pain and compensatory thoracic+lumbar 42degree scoliotic curves as well as 90degree kyphosis and lordosis. The remaining rod has pulled away from the spine except at mid-thoaracic vertebrae ... what is most apparent is the significant growth that I sustained after the original procedure done T2-L3 ... the rod is now aligned to only 8 thoracic vertebrae. I experience severe pain esp in my hips and neck as well as mid-back and digestive system dysfunctions. What astounds me is the realization that I am actually tall (inside) and the unmitigating power of the spinal dynamics. I now look barrel-shaped on sticks, with a big smile!!

    Revision Surgery

Hi Wilela, Sorry 2 hear about ur new problems. I've been reading several posts & there are so many of us who have had fusion w/Harrington Rod (fused T5-L4) and are experiencing problems in the lumbar area & difficulty walking or any activity. I recently saw Dr. Boachie @ The Hosp for Spec Surgery & he said I need a revision. The only fly in the ointment is the fact that he does not participate with any insurance & the office staff will not assist you in any recovery of his fee. While we are not poor by any means we are not in a financial situation to have the kind of money that would be required. Right now, I am in the process of researching other docs who would do the same revision & who participate with ins co's. I think when I had my original fusion (1989) I thought my problems were over. It never occurred to me that I would be faced with these situations of not being able to take a walk (I'm 66 yrs old. If anyone has any additional comments I would appreciate hearing from you. And, to Wilela, I hope you locate the docs that will address your current problems.
