  • Third Brace

    Hello,
Im new to forums and learning lots. My son was diagnosed with scoliosis at 4 due to holocord syrinx/chiari he is 10years old now. He has had 2 decompressions for chiari and a syringopleural shunt for the syrinx. He had back brace when younger but the curve actually got better and we were stable for about almost 3years. THEN BOOM in 6 months he jumped about 10 degrees, they think due to growth spurt . He is back in boston brace with C curve of about 37 degrees.... HIs brace is casted and custom made and just not looking right this time around... its so hard to get situated on him and sticks out back top and cuts in the front tight ,,is this normal? I just dont remember from the last time all this diffuculty..THE brace opens at the front easier for him to put on his self.
    Thanks
    Kelly

When Ben was wearing his brace we had to lay him down before we did up the straps - this made his back straighter & align better in the brace - otherwise it just wouldn't sit right & he got red rub marks on his back hump (when his brace was cast to his body he was in a laying down position, so made sense to me !?!?!)

if you find it still isn't sitting right, take him back to the designer & ask him to put it on him (show you how) - he might find there is a problem with it & fix it or you will see how to put it on correctly - either way your son will benefit

      good luck - Nancy
