Hey, I haven't posted here in a while (I mostly post on SpineKids) but I thought I would share this with you all. I have already posted this on SpineKids, but in case you all would like to read it too:
You all know how Shailene Woodley (Amy on ABC Family's The Secret Life Of The American Teenager) has scoliosis, right? Well, a couple weeks ago I wrote her an email to her official fan email address. And she replied!!
The email I sent:
Shailene,
I'm 15, and was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis when I was 12. But just this past March, significant changes had occured in all three curves in my spine (28, 22, and 16 degrees). My doctor prescribed me a Boston TLSO brace for 21 hours a day. Adjusting to the brace was really hard, but when I found out you also had scoliosis and a back brace, I was inspired. I love your show and can now appreciate you for not only struggling with scoliosis, but also for lifting up your shirt and revealing your brace on national television. Now that you're finished with bracing, I can almost feel your pride. I'm excited for when that day comes for me, but for now I'll just pull my strength from knowing that there is someone out there who knows what I'm going through.
I admire you.
-Stephanie
Her reply:
Dear Stephanie,
That's a very touching story and what you just said about me and the brace and everything seriously made me cry. I am so glad I'm a inspiration for you. It's really hard to go through Scoliosis, I do know that. Just keep on believing in faith.
Love,
Shailene
How cool is that?!!?!
