  • Surgery scars

Hi everyone! I am new here but hope I can help kids and teens going through the process of surgery with my experience. I am 24 now and had surgery 4 days before my 12th birthday. I am sad to say I really don't know much about my surgery and scoliosis other than I had a 70+ degree curve and am missing a rib and part of my pelvis from surgery. I am in the process of getting my medical records so hopefully I will soon know more about my scoliosis. I have 3 main scars from surgery and recently decided to get a tattoo incorporating the scar where he removed part of my pelvis. Hope this link works. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Welcome Pouncy. This is a great place to learn more about our scoliosis. I admit to not knowing much about it until I turned 57, since I ignored it from age 13.

I'm not a tattoo fan, being a bit of a fossil, but I know body art is extremely popular these days. You're a brave girl getting that done. Didn't it hurt?

It was a little sensitive right at the tip of the scar but not too bad

        Pouncy,
I have been to many conventions and have seen lots of quality work.
The artist did a great job. My son would like to get a tattoo incorporating his scar.

          Hi Pouncy

          Your tattoo looks pretty good!

It would be a good idea to start a post surgical "tattoo thread" I would myself, but I don't have any tattoos.

I went scuba diving years ago and this guy had his whole upper body done as a "reef"

If one had multiple scoli surgeries, I guess a whole operating room would be the equivalent? LOL

Could you imagine tattooing a portrait of your surgeons face leaning in? The eyes would have to be right on because he would have his surgical mask covering his mouth. Every patient knows "that look"

Could you imagine the look on his face when he sees it? LMAO

If he attended a SRS meeting, he would have to project it on the screen. "Look at what one of my patients did?"

That would be awesome! I was really excited for Dr Palmer in Az to see it but when I called for an appointment I found out he retired. I was sad but he graduated from med school in 1955 so I guess it was about time he retired. I have only seen one other scar tattoo and that was a zipper over the scar but I was to scared to tattoo on the scar having the tattoo barely touching it was enough for me.

                Babachi,

I was actually nervous to see my parents reaction to the tattoo but when they saw it they loved it. I am so happy I got this done since so many people ask to see my scars at least this way they laugh when they see them and not act shocked.
