  • Good news!!!!

    Hey all!!

I got REALLY good news on my new doctor appt.!! He said that the pain that I am having in the thoracic area is because I need to build some muscle to help relieve the other muscle because it is doing double duty. It is doing double duty to try and keep up with me and keep me upright!! The pain in the lower spine is because of my legs not my lumbar curve! We were told that my legs were the same and that it was my hips. After the surgeon looked at the xrays he said the legs were off 2.2 cm. He knew that the legs were causing some bad back pain. So, he wants us to go to a specialist in the legs. So, we are going to make an appt. to try and figure out what they think and what they want to do. Does anyone know what they do for that big of a leg difference?? So...I am sooooo happy that I don't need more spine surgery!!!!!! The one was enough for me!!!!! Doc said I need some aggressive Physical Therapy!!!! lol Maybe things will start looking up!!! GONNA WORK HARD I AM SOOOO SICK OF PAIN!!!!! Have a new PT he does a lot of spinal patients (it is what he specializes in) so, I won't get hurt like my previous experiances!!
    Diagnosed in '06'
Wore TLSO brace for 18 mo.
Upper curve 40 degrees; lower 35 degrees
    Surgery in March '08' (T6 - T11)
Rods for 7 vertabraes; 3 fused
Still have lumbar curve (T12 - L4) of now, 33 degrees
I have osteoarthritis, 3 bulging discs, stenosis, fast progressing lordosis, vertebrea twisting (vertebreas almost on side) all in lumbar spine. Will most likely have another surgery to extend rods and fusion. :'(

    Hi Ti-tough

If your name is Fred,or Ted you would be titaniumfred,or titaniumted, which would really blow some people away.(mainly me!) LOL
Just wondering what your name is? Your name isnt Tina is it? Titaniumtina would be cool.

Anyway, that is good news and I cannot overemphasize how much my physical therapy helped me. With all the exercises that I did with my shoulder, it balanced out all the muscles in my upper area and I no longer have the "bear traps". This was started 10 months post scoli surgery, and I just finished up.

The easiest and most logical thing to do with the legs is to use a lift in one of your shoes. Then exercise. Its good that you have a pt with spinal experience.

Things will improve, stick out the program.
    keep laughing

      Hi Ed!
Lol I got a kick out of the different names you came up with... My username should have actually been stainless steel tough! Oh, and my name is not Tina, Ted or Fred...keep guessing! lol (hint female) lol Yep...I have a 3/4 inch lifted shoe right now...could stand to be a little higher. Have to go to a leg specialist to see what he thinks and if there is anything else he can do. I have heard of leg shortning where they shorten the long leg to make you straight...have you heard of this? Has anyone else heard of this? Has anyone had this done? If so, what was it like? Thanks for reading!

I have never heard of leg shortening to make you straight titaniumtough honey and PLEASE make sure you are seeing reputable doctors and surgeons with a lot of experience with scoliosis, good that you have a good PT.

Slow and easy does it, lol

Operation 1966, Fused from T4 to L3, had Harrington rods inserted. Originally had an 85 degree Thoracic curve with lumbar scoliosis as well but had a good correction.
Perfectly normal life till 1997 but now in a lot of pain daily. Consider myself very fortunate though.

I feel that my left leg is about 1.5 inches shorter than my right, will see what my surgeon says Monday week. I am happy to ignore it though. But would use shoe lifts if it was recommended. Anything else, forget it! I can live with it.
