    Close BOTH threads, please.

This is the most bizarre thing I've seen here. Someone claiming on their second post "I'm not a shill".

And then attacking with a purpose.

      Linda ...

Just curious ... you've said (or maybe it was Joe) you couldn't close/delete threads ...

Is that correct? I understood you to (or him?) to say you were a moderator in title only.

If not, I'll address your statement about him being employed by Spinecor (whenever) in a new thread. It's relevant. The rest of this isn't.

      Regards,
      Pam

        Closing threads is one thing.

Removing them for being too factual, for example, is another.

You can never have too many facts unless you have a non-factual agenda of course. We've seen plenty of that in various threads.

In the end analysis Sharon - i concur

Emotions (the bad ones vs the good ones) when allowed to guide communication ... somehow always turn out - interesting (for lack of better word). Life shows us this over and over - have no idea why anyone (including myself) would have to learn this more than once .. one of life's mysteries.

In answer to the comment about someone claiming to not be a shill ... said someone, was accused of being one before said someone denied it - and that is a fact (as there is - unaltered record, somewhere here in Adobe format even, if one cares to search for it)

Bracie gets a baptismal bath ...

In the continuing sharing of the Spinecore brace (adult use) .. the manufacturer recommends weekly washing and it is published that machine washing (delicate cycle) is fine, as well as hand washing. Toss in dryer - medium heat. ok ... got to tell ya this made me a little nervous. I've never spent so much money for a garment so, hand washing in Woolite became the choice. Also chose to let it drip dry as i had a concern about repetitive dryer use and its overall effect on the elastic bands - again, because this brace is such an expense in my world [out of network insurance covering only 60%] - want it to last as long as possible. Worked very well. Drip/Air drying takes about 10 hours .. downside (were i a wealthy woman .. would have purchased two). Brace provider had marked certain snap locations with a waterproof pen (very important to make sure your provider is using one so the identification will not disappear on first washing). So that's about it for the topic of Spinecor brace bath (for other new users or those just seeking information). Over in the Adolescent forum, one of the girls had named her Spinecor brace - found that cute and whimsical ... so - i've named/blessed mine - Bracie

Yes it is true (with one exception and according to my source to follow) - you will not find insurance companies paying for treatments that have not been proven to work for a significant number of people using said treatment. Which i guess can be both good and bad, depending upon treatment - takes years for them to gather the statistical data. They (insurance companies) will not pay for things that have been proven not to work (for a significant number of people). This is what my insurance representative for United Health Care (contracted by the US Judicial Court system i work for) has told me anyway. So maybe the bigger question is, is the insurance representative telling the truth or making up a big story for the sake of entertainment

Hey - we should start an insurance thread - bet it would be the most popular thread on record since the beginning of time

Would be interesting to see what other insurance reps are saying - lets call, i say - and compare notes!

There is a specific insurance code for this brace - if anyone would like it just privately message me and i will be glad to give it to you ... This is assuming of course, that your insurance provider covers durable medical equipment/therapeutic braces - not all do, that proving the exception to coverage(according to my insurance provider). Darn exceptions to every rule!

Also - unless the brace provider is in Network - then the coverage will be out of network requiring patient payment up front with reimbursement according to specific insurance company guidelines, mine is 60%. If i had an in network provider, the cost would have been covered 100% without up front patient payment (by my insurance provider guidelines). Why doesn't my brace provider contract to be in-network with United Health Care ... well, insurance/health care provider contracts are costly to health care providers, and time consuming in terms of claim filing, etc - again, my representative saying such things are quite common (some health care providers not contracting with insurance companies) and is no indication of treatment viability. Insurance rep also shared that when such health care providers do not contract with insurance companies, they are able to pass the savings in cost on to their patients (generally speaking).

Your insurance representative is your best source in determining whether or not the brace will be covered by your specific insurance company. So sorry for not placing the words "most better" - in front of my quoted reference above. Which would have made the sentence read: Most better insurance companies cover it both in and out of network. Did not mean to be misleading, and while the statement is not totally false - it could have been clearer. Will change that - thanks very very much for the great catch!!

Also of note - this brace is covered by most better insurance companies - provided an Ortho and/or other similar Specialist has written an Rx for it, which mine did without hesitation after review of my brace providers web site - said Ortho also researched for me to discover that said brace provider was opening a satellite office in my area and passed that info on to me (believe i have mentioned this elsewhere in both threads) ... maybe not all Ortho's are inclined to do this, but mine was and i am grateful - saved me Ortho shopping.

Realize you did not ask me specifically about this - but since the referenced quote is mine, and since i have researched this in depth before making my treatment option decision - felt i had lots of good information for you that is easy to verify via phone call to your insurance representative. If you call and get different answers - hope you will share them.

Best - and good luck with the toso i'm not much good at the pain thing either

It is not surprising that insurance companies may pay for Spinecor when you realize they pay for other braces with no robust evidence of efficacy either.

Now why they pay for any brace given the literature is the $64,000 question in my mind. All braces are still experimental as far as I know.

It's a very different scenario when insurance companies pay for orthotics (not "durable medical devices") for kids prescribed by real (SRS) orthos. Most SRS orthos won't even agree to follow a kid in Spinecor ... and a lot of insurance companies won't cover chiropractic.

Braces don't work serve a corrective purpose in adults outside *possible* pain management. I believe we've been over this.

And Sharon's right ... it's debatable whether bracing kids works to affect a curve. It's not even CLOSE to debatable whether it will affect a skeletally mature spine.

Apples to oranges. (bracing kids vs. bracing adults ... at best - and that's largely based on "is bracing kids effective?").

                              dani,

Don't base one person's experience with their insurance company as means to figure what your own will cover. Even the same type of plan (ppo, pos, hmo) under the same company can be underwritten by different writer and have different coverage.

it's really down to finding out what your own policy says.

...and sometimes you get two different answers. I've had that happen and in the end I had to let a claim go through not knowing wether it'd be covered or not to really find out the answer.

afaik from reading through the master policy (ah, a nice half inch thick read...) mine doesn't cover bracing for adults... also has 30 per calendar year max on PT and chiropractic visits. The latter is probably b/c chiro's are notorious for 'you have to see me 3x a week...' and insurance co. doesn't want to pay for that many visits.
                              30 something y.o.
