  • Trying to do a search on my Surgeon

Hi, I am waiting for a date in the early part of June to have spinal fusion. My ortho. surgeon who specializes in spine deformaties and adult and pediatric scoliosis surgery, Marc Agulnick (Winthrop Orthopedics in Garden City, NY) came highly recommended. I have not seen his name anywhere on this forum, I did a search using his name. Also, someone, I think Pam had suggested to someone to use this sight (Scoliosis Research Society), but his name did not come on there either. Has anyone heard of him or his practice?

    Delores,

I just checked his licensure on the New York State physician profile site: He shows up as an Orthopedic Surgeon, but I couldn't find him on the SRS list either.

The Wintrop Orthopaedics site lists him as a Scoliosis Specialist (who also does revisions), but of course that's the group he's with.

I found these basic info on his background and certifications (only American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery) at ucomparehealthcare.com, and reviews from patients at ratemd.com.

I didn't find any negative info on him, but did confirm he isn't SRS.

I searched a few different places, and the only paper (you can register for free access) I could find that lists him as a co-author is:

Biomechanical evaluation of surgical constructs for stabilization of cervical teardrop fractures.
Allyson Ianuzzi, Isidoro Zambrano, Jigar Tataria, Azeema Ameerally, Marc Agulnick, Jesse S Little Goodwin, Mark Stephen, Partap S Khalsa
    Spine J
    (Vol. 6, Issue 5, Pages 514-23)

... but nothing published on scoli. It appears while he does do some fusion/revision surgery - and his practice lists him as a "specialist" - he does quite a bit of other spine surgery. Doesn't look like he has privileges at any facilities other than Winthrop Orthopaedic Hospital either.

    Have you gotten other opinions?

    Regards,
    Pam

I don't know the doctor you're seeing, Agulnick, but I took my daughter to Winthrop Orthopaedic Associates and have a positive opinion of the practice. The doctor we saw was Lewis who does pediatric orthopaedics. He was the second Dr we saw and was MUCH better than the first (Silber at Northshore/LIJ).
