hi everyone! has anyone heard of new "medication" (for want of a better word) that is used during surgery to control bleeding? it is used fairly frequently in surgeries with patients who have hemophilia...if anyone has heard of it or had it used during their own surgeries i'd like to hear about it! thanks....

Yes I have the answer it's called Amicar...This drug is given to you before surgery to help with the blood loss....My surgeon told be he used my own blood by recycling it and filtering it thru a machine ...He said they have been using this method for a while, and its very safe...I can't tell U it is, b/c I had a blood clot in my lung after surgery.CONNIE

Is the blood clot related to the med you were given prior to surgery? I remembered you saying something about coumadin (blood thinner med). I just thought the clotting was due to some other medical problems and was related to the coumadin.
