  • The Braces are on their way to Africa

    UPDATE:
The braces we collected are on their way to Africa.

Thank you so much for those of you who donated! We were able to send 15 braces, it is so nice to know that they can be reused instead of going to the land fill or back of a closet!!

Here is a photo of all the braces:

If we do the collection again in the future, I will be sure to let you all know.
And, Dr. Boachie sends his personal appreciation.

Way to go, Cara. You know my views on the topic, but yeah ... if no one in the U.S. will take them, better they see some modification - and use.

I applaud you for arranging this.

THAT IS AWESOME!!! I wish we would have known before we got rid of my three. We were told that you couldn't reuse them... Anyway, way to go!!!
      Diagnosed in '06'
Wore TLSO brace for 18 mo.
Upper curve 40 degrees; lower 35 degrees
      Surgery in March '08' (T6 - T11)
Rods for 7 vertabraes; 3 fused
Still have lumbar curve (T12 - L4) of now, 33 degrees
I have osteoarthritis, 3 bulging discs, stenosis, fast progressing lordosis, vertebrea twisting (vertebreas almost on side) all in lumbar spine. Will most likely have another surgery to extend rods and fusion. :'(

Cara, that's great. I love that it not only helps children who wouldn't otherwise have access to it, but that it reduces waste and garbage.
