When you arrive at Shriners, you will check in at a large reception area, where you will be given a pager. They have a small hospitality cart with coffee, tea, juice, graham crackers, etc. The reception area is very kid-friendly. You will first be called up to the registration desk. They are very nice and will welcome you to the Shriners system and give you some info about their services. Once you are registered you will wait again with your pager.

You will want to bring copies or CD's of any/all prior imaging studies your daughter has had. You may be sent to radiology for more x-rays. Then a nurse will come and get you and take you and your daughter to a room, where you will wait for the doctor (are you seeing Dr d'Amato?). You will meet the care coordinator, a resident, and the doctor. They will talk with you, look at the x-rays and examine your daughter, as with any doctors appt.

If a brace is ordered, the nurse will walk you to the brace shop (P&O-Prosthetics and Orthotics), where you will meet the orthotist. Our orthotist there is Don, and he is really wonderful with kids. He is also willing to answer any question you may have, and is very nice.

Sometimes the clinic will be very busy, and you may have to wait, so it's best to come prepared with activities for your daughter, maybe a small snack, etc.

Good luck, feel free to ask any other questions you may have, and let us know how it goes.
