  • Parathyroid issues with scoliosis/osteoporosis

Anyone else have parathyroid problems with scoliosis? I recently was dxd on a test by my endochronologist (sp?). I have osteoporosis, too. Wonder if anyone knows anything about any connections between all these. My specialist didn't say much but will retest in a few months. Jolene

    Hi Jolene,
I know 3 people who have had parathyroid surgery, but none of them have scoliosis. I know that doesn't prove anything one way or the other. I kind of doubt that there is a connection. I hope you don't have to have surgery for your parathyroid problem, but I don't think the surgery for it is too bad and the recovery time is short. Take care and good luck. Sally

I had surgery to remove my right thyroid lobe about a year before i had my scoliosis surgery. There was a nodule which biopsy showed contained some Hurthle cells. I also have some osteoporosis. Don't know if there is some connection between all that or not.

        Hi JoAnn,
Thyroid and Parathyroid are two separate glands that control different things in our bodies even though they are located in the same area of the neck. The parathyroid controls Calcium metabolism and electrolyte balance so it could possibly be connected with osteoporosis but highly doubtful that it is connected to scoliosis. Sally
