I'm wondering if anyone else can feel screw-heads (or is it the tip of a rod?) through their back. At the bottom of my fusion around L5, there's a knobby bump that does not hurt when I press on it, but I don't remember it being there the whole time since surgery (certainly the last few months). Anyway, I have my one-year post-op visit with Boachie in 2 months so I'll have x-rays then, but does anyone else have this???????

Hi Chris-
Don't worry! I had the same thing at the top of my fusion- I called Lindy and she said it was nothing to be concerned about. Yes, it is the top of a screw but I guess that is common, especially if you are thin, I saw Boachie since then and he confirmed that it is fine.

I feel mine too, Chris ... at the very bottom (nowhere else).

Most of the time it's not at all painful (more freaky than anything), but I'm still at that healing point where it occasionally feels like an electric shock (just out of the blue).

My friends now know what the odd yelps and cursing mean. I think at first they were concerned it was the onset of Tourette's ...

I feel mine most when I'm driving (the lumbar support hits right there).

That was funny!! "I think at first they were concerned it was the onset of Tourette's ..." Thanks for the laugh and smile I do get those occasional outbursts of cursing and I'm pre-op...I wonder how bad my "condition" will be post-op

Pam it's funny you mention the electric shock because that just started happening to me less than a week ago. All I could do was yell @$#%@^& about 15 times before it finally subsided! I am sure others were wondering about Tourette's here too!

I can also feel a bunch of the screws and the top of the rods. My boyfriend was counting screws the other day... I think he could feel at least four. My shocks are subsiding (I'm about four and a half months) - I only get them occasionally these days.

Well, I'm relieved.....thanks! As far as the electric shocks go, I had more like electric currents that ran up the entire length of my anterior incision that made me curse a blue streak whenever I tried to lie down on my back. They started around 4 months post-op and lasted a couple of months -- yeeeeeow!

Tourette's

I'm beginning to think that Tourette's is a secondary condition with scoliosis! I'm pre-op but I definately have outbursts. I appreciate knowing it may continue post-surgery so I can warn my family to continue to wear their earplugs!

Pam, I'm really excited to see the new site. For me it will be wonderful to read what I have to look forward to. I'm assuming it's something you're putting together?

Oh Becky I think it would be much more fun to just surprise them with the completely random outbursts! My first one happened when I was on telephone with someone I haven't seen in a few decades that I just got in touch with after all of these years. Try explaining that one when you can't catch your breath but you can keep screaming @#$^$#$@...$#%##%$ over and over again.
