    Silly question...

    Hi Guys,

I had surgery last may and not that i can move a little better and feel my back more as my numbness is going away. I can now run my fingers down my spine the top part of my back feels a little crooked still i think my surgeon got it down to 30% i know it sounds silly but i feel that when you go through this surgery you want to think its dead straight but its not, anyone else have this problem. Also i still have a rib hump i would of thought this would go after having this op, you can only see my rib hump if i bend over.....

Also the cold weather really plays up with my back it aches around my shoulder and where my shoulder blades are...

    Thanks...

    Lee,

Your back is not going to be perfect. Your rib hump might not be either. I am sure your curves are a lot better than they were and that they did all they could with the rib hump as part of your scoliosis surgery. I would bet your back looks beautiful. Try to get on with your life. Your surgery is past you and there is an entire world out there that has nothing to do with scoliosis and straight backs. Go enjoy it. You are young and you have your whole life ahead of you. Good luck.

I had surgery in December and 2 of my curves are gone, the middle curve is down to about 20* and my rib hump disappeared. I still have a bit of flatness on the left side of my waist but after over 30 years of no waist on the left side (actually a bulge out on the left, yuck!) I am thrilled with the new look. I still am amazed that my surgeon was able to achieve such a great correction. I never expected perfect but my correction was so much better than I thought it would be. They were hoping to get 50% and got so much more. I was never ashamed to show my midsection before the surgery and did several stage plays where my tummy and back were out there for the world to see. Now I can't wait for the opportunity to show how much better it is. I feel like I was given a gift from God and my surgeon and am so grateful for what they were able to achieve together. I am pain free and can't wait to start living my new life with my new back, even with the mild imperfections. I hope that you will be able to accept the correction you were given and go on and live a wonderful life.
    Stay Strong,

I am 45yrs old and a year post op, I had a 48 curve on top and a 58 on the bottom. The top now is about a 17 and the bottom is 20 something, I still don't have a straight back but it is much better than before. My rib hump on my upper back is less but my wing bone sticks (that I never had before) on now so my upper back doesn't look better and my lower back is down a lot, when you look at me from the back it look the hump is reduced a lot but when I turn to the side you notice the rib hump more (still better but not totally). My doctor did say I was very flexible and that it was considered a good correction. I can buy better fitting blouses instead of hiding behind large and x large blouses and jackets.
If you have any pictures of your back before the surgery comparing the difference should make you feel better.
