  • clothes getting destroyed by brace?

ok so i have a boston [ or TLSO ] brace.

On the back of a lot of my shirts i see like white patches that looks kind of like kinda like chalk. Since I wear hoodies a lot to cover my brace, the only thing i can think is causing these white spots is my brace.

....is this happening to anyone else?

and also my brace is like "eating" my clothes. i find holes in then that get bigger and bigger so i have to keep on getting new stuff.

im only 13; i like dont have a job or anything so my parents dont let me go to the mall like every week. [[[ hahah i wish. ]]]

    ....anyways what should i do?
i have scoliosis. third boston brace. (:

    Hi,

When my son wore a TLSO it did the same thing to his clothes after a while. There really isn't an awful lot you can do - but I would try to buy clothes with fabrics that are a little sturdier. I became an expert at being able to tell which would last a while and which would have a hole after a few wears!

Also, try to see exactly which part of the brace is causing the problem. If it's a screw or something you can try covering it to prevent it from constantly rubbing against the fabric. I used to either put two bandaids over the screw (one on top of the other) - There was also something else I bought once called Dr. Scholl's Moleskin Plus Padding - it has padding on one side and adhesive on the other. You can cut it into any size piece you need and I'm sure you can find it in any drug store.

    Hope this helps.

my (also bostson) brace had a habit of eating holes into my shirts, i've found that thicker looser shirts hold up way better then skinny thin ones
      I'll be brief

i play trombone and i love to swim
I got a boston brace in 2003 at age 11

I was just going to post the same question. My 14yo has had her boston brace for one month and her pants are getting holes in them after just 2 or 3 days of wear.

Her shirts haven't been as much of a problem since I covered the little metal brads (or whatever they're called) with two bandaids each. Her shirts aren't tight though.

Her pants are under a lot more tension though. We're in Texas, so heavy fabrics would be miserable.

Today, she's trying out wearing one of the undershirts on top of the brace as well to see if that helps (and isn't too hot to deal with).

Snap button caps to cover screws on Boston brace

My son Robert has been wearing a Boston brace for a couple of years, and there have always been little holes in the back of many of his shirts. When we replaced our kitchen chairs with different kinds of backs, I noticed a lot of scratches on the chairs also.

His brace has nothing to cover the metal screws that secure the brace straps, and several of the screws were pretty rough. My husband covered them with "snap button caps", which are smooth plastic and cover the screws. He remembered using them on some of his boat projects. We got them at a store that sells boat parts, although you may be able to get them somewhere else also. There is a tool to take them off, although I was told that you can remove them with a screwdriver too.

So far they seem to be working out for Robert. Maybe there is something we should have gotten with the brace to cover the screws, but we never did. I thought that I would pass this along to anyone that it might help.

Jean (Mom to Robert, 10 year old with idiopathic scoliosis for two years)

my parents also realized that ever since i got my brace i scratch the wood on the chair and its verrryyyy annoying.. what i decided to do since its not nice for the eyes is just to wear a watever shirt on me when i eat and that way it doesnt scratch the wooden chairs.. but plz.. let that be our biggest problem.. lol

                      Cloths Getting Destroyed

This has happened to my cloths. I dont get white marks because im in a milwaukee brace but the front an back steels where they screw together have made holes in my cloths and the back sttels have scratched the chairs.

My mom would put iron on tape inside my clothes right where the brace made contact with them..
                          That seemed to help...
                          Me: almost 43 .........
scoli since age 6.. milwaukee brace 10 years

                          13 verterbrae w/ rib recession ...
1 year post op.. feeling MUCH better.. still rib and shoulder paid but no back pain!!
