    Hi Lee,

Of course, we all are different, but I don't see a problem with you traveling in December.

Make your plans, and look forward to it, you'll know ahead of time if you think you can make the trip.

      Hi Lee,

I'm having my surgery just a few days after you and will also be flying in December. My surgeon said it shouldn't be a problem. Of course, the flight I'm taking is only a couple hours long.

How are you feeling? I'm going to make my blood donation appointments this morning. Eekk

      Best,

        Lee,
I had surgery Jan 3rd and I was on a plane on March 17th! I just made sure I took a pain pill before the flight and asked for extra pillows. It was fine...

            Hi

I had the surgery in February and flew to Czech Republic in the July (I am in the UK). Late August, I flew to China (about 12 hours). To be fair, I wasn't exactly comfortable on either flight and my surgeon wasn't very keen but I did it all the same.

I think you'll be fine by December.

            Good luck!

Hi Lee. I had my surgery on June 30th last year and was on a plane to the sunshine coast in October. Not a problem at all. I am flying to London on the 30th June this year to celebrate my one year anniversary so it will definately test it on the long haul flight. I did make the metal detectors go off though and now have a certificate from my dr to carry with me to explain the metal reaction at all times. This does not happen with everyone. He said it is probably because he used some heavy duty screws. May 28th hey, wow thats coming up quick!

I flew from the East Coast to the West Coast (about 6 hours each flight) when I was 5 months post-op and had no problems. I made sure to get up every 30-45 mins and walk around the plane. I also carried a small pillow with me that I could tuck behind my back for added comfort when sitting (it was larger than those little ones they give you on the plane).

I am flying from New York to Germany in June...

If popping a pain killer before the flight would be beneficial, what should I do if pain killers make me nauscious? I experience the worst side effects ever with pain killers being that I weigh under 100 pounds and the dosage is probably for average-sized adults.

My surgeon prescribed 50 mg of Ultram... I have not tried it yet since I am too afraid to re-experience symptoms of "overdose".

                  Any other recommendations?

I also get nauseous and very irritable from pain killers. Thankfully, I was completely off of them within 7 weeks of surgery so I didn't take any for my cross country flight at 5 months post-op. I just brought my own squishy pillow for my back (http://www.abackrubco.com/index.asp?...OD&ProdID=139), used an airline pillow for my head and I got up and walked around the plane every so often. I hope you have a great trip!
