    Miranda,

    My husband and son are type O+, they can donate to anyone. My daughter is A+ same as me.

    April 8 & 12, 2004 - Anterior/Posterior surgery 15 hours & 7 hours
    Thorasic - 79 degree down to 22
    Lumbar - 44 degree down to 18
    Fused T2 to sacrum
    June 2, 2005 - Pedicle subtraction osteotomy @L3 7 hours
    MAY 21, 2007 - Pedicle subtraction osteotomy @ L2, extended the fusion to S2 and added pelvic instrumentation 9 hours

    FUSED T2 - SACRUM 2

      Hi Miranda,
      I had 2 pints donated for me. I'm A+ and my mom donated one pint and my uncle donated one pint. They are both A+ as well. I didn't need any blood during the surgery, but I did need both pints after surgery. They usually have you donate your own blood within a month before your surgery, but since i have thalassemia (low hemoglobin level), i wasn't allowed to donate for myself. I think part of the reason why I needed two transfusions post-op is because of my thalassemia. The first one was while I was in recovery, but the second was 4 days after surgery.
      It is very common to have a transfusion either during or after surgery, so you should definitely donate your blood or have someone donate for you.
