    where do we post other issues?

    Hi Everyone,

    I haven't been on for a while because we have been very busy with our new puppy. Is there a place on this forum to talk about other things other than scoliosis. This is directly related to Nicole. Here we are trying to do a good thing by getting her this adorable little bichon puppy. we already have a big bichon who is 6. We bought her this dog to reward her for all of her great effort dealing with scoliosis. We just found out the the puppy has a little heart murmur which could turn out to be nothing. Or not. So now in addition to being upset about her own chance of surgery, she has to deal with the possibility of her puppy not being well. Instead of researching scoli, I am researching puppy murmurs.
    Anyway, is there a place on this forum for something like this?

    Sorry to hear about the puppy. There are quite a few lists on YahooGroups that deal with dogs, dog breeds, and dog health issues.

      Linda,

      I have seen those forums and maybe I will go on one. I have never been on any other than this. I wanted to know if I shouldn't post those kind of happenings to my "friends" on this site because it has nothing to do with scoliosis and just has to do with my daughter who has scoliosis. It would be good if there was some kind of daily thread on here where we could come on and talk about something that is happening that day. If that is not appropriate and others aren't interested in doing that, it's okay. I just wondered if it was an option.

        Hey, Melissa,

        I've been following your puppy discussion on Spinekids. One of my favorite things about SK is the opportunity to share other issues in our lives other than just Scoliosis.

        Personally, I don't care if we have a section for non-Scoli issues or not. I'm glad we can all share what's going on in our lives and support each other.

          Iam a dog groomer/behaviorist/vet tech. Heart murmurs are very common in puppys alot of times they do grow out of them. You should make sure the breeder knows of the problem. Make sure the puppy has a stool sample checked intestinal parasites can be associated with murmurs. I am at work not but will post more later. Congrats on the new pup.

            I would rather talk about these things with my "scoli friends" than with a bunch of strangers. Christine, I didn't know you were in the field. What a coincidence. The breeder couldn't care less. Didn't have one bit of any compassion or normal reaction. That is why I am suspect. All she said was that only a murmur of 3 or above was something to be concerned about. She had the most abnormal cold response. Do I have the word "sucker" on my forehead? The vet said to come back in a few weeks because she may outgrow it. We brought in a stool sample and it came out negative. It was sent away to a lab so I am waiting on those results. If you saw this puppy you would no believe how cute she is.

              I wrote the breeder a letter and she just left a message on our machine. She was actually nice and thought I was insulting (which I wasn't) and offered to take the dog back and refund the money. She thinks the dog will be okay. We don't know yet. But I doubt Nicole will want to give the dog back now if there's a chance she outgrows the murmur in a few weeks. Not sure what to do. Have to call her back, but dreading it.

                I could not imagine you giving back that darling puppy. Even if the murmer does not disappear over the next couple weeks you can give the pup a great life. There are vet specialists too. What grade murmer is it. Don't let the breeder intimidate you are a very bright woman and the purpose of your informing the breeder is to help with her/his breeding program. She/he does not want heart problems in their line. You should make sure the pup was vet checked before your purchase to get a approx. time frame when the murmer showed up. I am envious. I want a puppy in a bad way but I have 3 -14year old dogs right now and they are sucking the life out of me and my wallet!!

                  Boy my last post sounded "cold" what I ment about the dogs sucking the life out of me was that I am constantly thinking about "you know what" and I am sad about it!!

                    The vet checked Roxy one week before our vet checked her. The breeder assured me that no murmur was heard and that she has no heart problems in her line. She thought I was nasty and accusatory. I just felt taken advantage of. Of course I want to believe that they had no knowledge of it.
                    We are keeping the puppy no matter what happens. Nicole and my husband are in love with her. She really is the cutest little 3-pound thing you can imagine. She is our dog. I just hope we didn't purchase a lot of problems. It wasn't a rescue dog. That would have been a different story. Thanks so much for responding. What type of dogs do you have?

                      Well that is good that the pup was vet check 1 week before. I wonder if you can call that vet and verify that there was no murmur. The breeder should appreciate a call with that info not get angry. I am sure you paid alot of money for the pup and she should stand behind her lines!! I wish that AKC would come up with some sort of breeder licensing program. so that the general public can be assured that their breeders are educated about things such as this.

                        I left a message with their vet and never heard back. He sounds like a country bumpkin who goes door-to-door in the middle of nowhere.

                        She said that if he would have heard a murmur then she would not have sold this puppy. She said there are no heart problems in her lines.

                        We are all very in love with this puppy. She is beautiful, smart, alert, and has the cutest personality. She is ours now, no matter what.

                        Hopefully it will all work out okay.

                          aaaaaaaa lucky i want a puppy but we have a pool in our backyard so we can't have a dog!!!!!!
