HI all. I am new to the forum. I am a 36 year old male who has lived with scoliosis for most of my life. I was diagnised at 10 years of age with a double S reversed curve and went through that whole dilema of Surgery or no surgery. We opted for the Boston brace. I wore it all the time. needless to say highschool was tough enough in the 80's to deal with but I had the brace on top of it.
I never really let it get to me. I just did my own thing anyways. No gym class was great. or as little gym class as possible. the Proffs didnt understand why. Tough on them though. I was never to become an athelete.
I never opted for the surgery because I was considered high risk due to heart problems. In hindsight it was the right move because I had open heart surgery at the age of 23 to replace a valve. The first thing Im wondering is there a correlation between the two?
three years after the heart surgery I took a fall on an ice patch.
which threw me out of allignment. Since then I have had ankle, Hip, knee and back pain for the past five years. I see my osteopath on a regular basis and she keeps me in allignment. I just recently started to swim for exercise and pain relief. I am enjoying it. I was told to do variations of the back stroke to tighten my back muscles.
My question is this. What else can I do for exercises with out going to a Gym and lifting weights?
Would rock climbing be ok or dangerous?
I am also curious if there is a specialist in the Montreal area who deals with this type of adult problem?
Most of the research I've done so far regarding scoliosis and double S curves is that women mostly have this. Is there a reason as to males having this and if so what?

    thanks for reading.
    Ari.
