  • Lower back fused long ago

I wonder if anyone can tell me of a good doctor for the lower back? I was operated in 1976 of spondylolisthesis by a doctor named George Lane. Dr. Jesse Dickson was my follow-up doctor FOR CLOSE TO 25 YEARS, since I was a teenager, until he retired. Then he retired and that was the end of my treatments, as I no longer have a much-needed doctor.

In my original operation, in 1976, my back was fused and the rods were taken out in 1977. I’ve was also diagnosed to have scoliosis. All my life I’ve live with pain, sometimes more than other times and with relatively no medication. Yes, I’ve learned to live with this disease effectively. Now, what seems like an eternity later I have pain in my left lower back, near my left hip, that worries me and I need to find a doctor that treats patients with previously fused lower backs and not just treatment for scoliosis. Can someone please suggest a doctor that treats previously fused lower backs? I really need to get established with another doctor because as I get older I will need him/her.

Thank you profusely to anyone who can recommend a doctor. Thank you.

    Sorry I wrote so much.

    Hi Marilyn...

While not exactly local, Dr. Mike LaGrone in Amarillo is widely considered one of the best. You can do a search on his name (see link above), and read posts from some of his patients.

      Thank you Linda

Thank you Linda. I've read his name on other posts on this website but wondered if he specialises on more than scoliosis. I'll give his office a call on Monday and find out how I fit into his specializations.

      Again, thank you.

        Hi Marilyn...

Most "scoliosis specialists" are really "spinal deformity specialists" which includes things like spondylolisthesis and kyphosis in addition to scoliosis, and the treatment is often the same.

        Linda
