I truly wish I could help you there, but I just recently moved to the area myself. I would check with the major hospitals in their orthopedic department if it's in regard to scoliosis. But you can also check online and check with local medical associations that have information on various Doctors in the area. Also your general practice doctor may have connections to other doctors whom might be able to give a good reference. Good luck!

Here is the link to a website with many scoliosis surgeons which I found on the doctor reference thread earlier -

      http://www.scoliosislinks.com/ScoliosisSpecialists.htm

A friend of mine had her scoliosis surgery performed in Richmond, VA but I don't remember the doctor's name. Seems like his last name began with an H. If I find out what it was, I'll return here and post it.

Dr. Chester Sharps is an orthopedic doctor in Richmond, Va. He specializes in spinal surgery and pediatric orthopedics and all that good stuff. He did my scoliosis surgery, and I dont think he could have done a better job. I would DEFINATLY reccomend this doctor to you because in my opinion he is one of the best doctors in Virginia, and is just a really great guy. I strongly hope you or anyone in Virginia can go to see him.
heres a link to some more info about him:

If you would like to know some others in the Newport News or Hampton area, I think I can give you some more names if you like

            reservations about Dr. Sharps

Always, always, get a second opinion on your scoliosis. Dr. Chester Sharps of Richmond told me that my scoliosis would not get any worse (I was braced with a 43 degree thoracic curve, which corrected to 35), but then my back shot past the original 43 degrees while I was in my early twenties (I'm 23 now). I ended up having spinal fusion surgery this summer...

Please, anyone reading this -- if you're constantly cracking your back or having persistent pain, get more than just one opinion!

yikes, sorry to hear about that one Thats pretty unusual though, to have a curve make a comeback and worsen. I hope your feeling better though

its kinda freaky really, seeing and hearing about another patient of Dr. Sharps. I wish i could talk to even more people here that go to see him.

i 100% agree with getting a second opinion, especially if you plan to have surgery. For my second opinion, i went to see Dr. Fox (i think thats his name- sorry only saw him once ) of Newport News, VA, and i really didnt like him too much. He didnt have that same friendliness but to the point kind of attitude Dr. Sharps has. He mingled around with big, pointless words for about a half hour before he finally basically told me i needed full time bracing. I didint fully agree with him, so i stuck with Sharps. I am very glad i did.

i just went back for my one year check- it was kinda funny, because while Sharps was examining my Xrays and back, i had like 6 residents staring at me in like, almost awe. They were all wearing shirts, ties, and lab jackets but Dr. Sharps was walking around in a bright pink polo. Haha, gotta love it
