  • WARNING Open Back Hardware Foto

Ok I have a few requests to see what the hardware looks like when it is still attached to the spine. My wife shot this picture when they were takeing out the rods from L1-L5. I wanted a picture of my last one with my back opened up from my butt to my neck. She (my wife) wouldn't do that one. Oh well it will be in a medical journal mag. my spine doctor is doing.http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Dscf0577-1.jpg

Now that gives a visual to all of my thoughts. That is neat! Did your wife actually take that pic or the doctor or a nurse? IM going to see if my dr will do that so i can make everyone cringe and then they can have a feeling what we go through! hahaha

Awesome closeup photo - I have a couple of pics taken during my son's surgery, not as close-up but still pretty good. In one of the photos you can actually see some of the curve of the spine. I haven't been able to post them due to scanner problems (it won't install for some reason). I will post them if I can ever figure out how.

How was you wife able to take the photo? During my son's surgery, they wouldn't allow anyone in the O.R. and when I asked if photos could be taken during surgery they said fine, bring an instant camera in an unopened package, a nurse took the photos.

            Renee

p.s. Have to wonder what the fork was used for

They had my wife scrub up and put on all the gowns and mask and so on. She was able to use our digital camera. It was put in some kind of bag and the lense was out only for the 5 or 6 pictures she took. She was run out after that, like she wanted to stay for the whole show. lol
Oh I have no clue what the fork was used for.

I resisted, and I still will. I don't mind to watch any operation, and see blood but the spine is something else for me, ever since I saw the scoliosis surgery performed twice on a teenage girl and then on a little boy. That's one tough wife for sure, everybody I know doesn't even want to see the sight of blood or watch those scoliosis surgery when I called them and asked to tune in.

Fair enough. Although there is no blood. You can see the muscle and the hardware with the skin retracted back, but no blood.

Great Photo. I didn't know they would allow such a thing. Every hospital is different, so they may not have allowed it anyway. If I had thought I would have asked. I would have had to ask a nurse to take them because no way my husband would do it. He probably would have fainted.
But it is a great photo. You had all your hardware removed? Are you still ok? No curvature problems now?

Removing it just started the problem. The doctor took it out after only 6 months of putting it in. I was fine for about 4 or 5 months and then all hell broke loose. I couldn't straighten up and was haveing problems walking. In just 4 months I grew one hell of a hump. I ended up with another spine specialist and after xrays, my spine had broken in 5 places. That is when I was fused from my butt to my neck. They cut 4 wedges out of the broken area and re wedged it from the other side to pull me back straight. I have rods from one end to the other but L1-L5 area has a cage around the spine. That is why I asked the question if you all thought I should sue the first doctor for removeing the hardware in only6 months. This has opened a big can of woop ass on me that I will live the rest of my life.

I looked at it, not nearly as bad as the whole spine I saw in those scoliosis surgeries on TV. Hubby watched the pic as well, and put it in his favorite He now says he will show to his buddies, some are whimps, LOL. I used to tell him that it would have been cool if he could have been in the OR with me and I will ask my ortho next time I see him what he thinks of that, but I'm sure he's going to think it's nuts, even if I don't. Different type of healthcare here.

Shortly after the surgery I started dumping weight, I mean real fast. I went from 185 lbs to 120 lbs in 4 months. I had every test taken that there is to take and no one could figure out what was going on. One of the doctors out of desperation set me up with a gastroligest. After they did the un comfey deed they found it. I have Celiac Disease. That means I am allergic to wheat. It had destroyed my intestion and I wasn't takeing in any nourishment. I had lost so much the screw heads were comming threw the left side muscle in my back. Talk about hurt like a bitch. That is when the back surgeon decided it would be ok to take out the hardware. Wrong.
