  • Doc recommendation in south/southwest VA?

i go in tomorrow to a orthopedist to see how things are looking in my back -- its been prolly 10-11 years since ive had an xray since surgery. as noted in a post below, ive been having a lot of back pain recently, and "feel" crooked.

this doctor (dr. durham) im seeing tomorrow is a general orthopedist -- not back-specific. he was recommended by the PCP, but i dont have too much more to go on other than that and google. going to the original doctor isnt completely out of the question, but he is about 4 hours away in DC. we are in the roanoke, va area, so i am looking for someone about an hour and a half-to two hours away, either VA or NC.

let me know if you love your doctor!

    (x-posted in P/HF, sorry!)

It seems like you have to travel a long ways just to see a Dr. I thpought I traveled a long distance, but not quite that bad. ai have to go about 90 miles to my Dr. and that is about one and a half hours. You can not see a back specialist? I wish you the best of luck.
I liked the Dr. I had that did my surgery but he moved out of state. He recommended a different Dr. and I really like him. He takes time to explain things to me. I think this goes for all Drs. that you have to gain their confidence before you can really feel secure and confident in them. At least that is how it is with me, I don't like going to a new Dr. I am so nervous.
Well again good luck. I will be thinking of you.

well the dr ive been referred to by the PCP is in town. i was just saying that, other than him, i would be willing to drive up to about an hour and a half away for a good surgeon. i also said the originating doctor is 4 hours away, but that i wouldnt necessarily be opposed to seeing him, because i liked him so much.

i dont HAVE to travel a long ways just to see one. im just WILLING to. this is my back we are talking about -- not, like, an eyelash on the other hand, i want personal recommendations from people who have dealt with the doctors on a health basis.

I am sorry, I misunderstand what your were saying. I know this your back your talking about. It is one of the many things that you have to be concerned about. I travel one hour and a half every time I see my Dr. I wish that a specialist was closer to me but one is not. The Dr. I see is very good and I trust and like him. I hope I did not offend you . I just was making a comment, from my own experience. Good luck.

nah. not offended at all. actually i was kind of amused. i come from the washington dc area, where i typically drove at least an hour to get to work.

so.... im used to long commutes and am willing to do what i need to do. an hour and a half is like a drop in the hat to me besides... i love driving. its nice to get away
