  • Any advice? In chronic pain and not getting help!

Hi, I am now 29 and was diagnosed with Scoliosis at the age of 15. At the time I was living in Leeds and so was sent to St James hospital, all was looked at and some tests were done under the watch of Mr Millner. After a time it was decided that we would see if I had any problems in later life. He stated that at any time in the future I could come back to him...

Cut to now and the fact I have been in severe pain for the past 2 years. I went to my gp in Lincolnshire as I have moved and told him I would like to go back to St James as there have been odd problems with my back, gravel type sensations, legs going dead, diahorrea, cant sit, cant stand for long aand he said no and sent me to a physiotherpaist. The physio lady was nice but refused to touch me as she feared I had a dodgy disk or crack in my bones. My gp then tried to refer me to Hull and Hull came back to him to say they didnt have a specialist there and what was he playing at. He eventually said he would refer me to St James but that I was wasting there time and they would not help me as you cannot have a spine straightened as that op does not exist!!!???(call himself a gp). After waiting 4 weeks to hear anything I contacted St James direct and it seems they wont see people outside the Leeds area....so what I wanna know is if anyone knows of a NHS hospital around here that has a scoilosis person and what the hell I am supposed to do now?! I am extremely concerned about my back as something is really wrong, even a simple xray would put my mind at rest as when the physio lady tested my reflexes they did not exist in my legs!
Any help appreciated as I am in severe pain alot of the time, stuck on Diclofenac for pain relief and stuck with a gp who thinks I am wasting peoples time (easy for him to say when I go to bed in tears from the pain and lack of sleep)

    Many thanks xxx

I think there are scoliosis specialists at:

    Queen's Medical Centre Nottingham
    Northern General Hospital Sheffield

You might also want to contact the Scoliosis Association (UK) www.sauk.org.uk to see if they can suggest a hospital in your area

Thanks nutmeg, its definately good to know that people know what the heck I can do, it is very boring and slow going through my gp and to be honest I dont really think he knows what he is doing, so that does not help!
