  • CAN SOMEONE PLZ HELP ME UNDERSTAND!!! tanks

Hi im 17 years old and i just found the result of my x-rays...i really dont know what this means and i was looking on the internet and found this site it looks really helpful so if anyone can tell me what this means plz theres too many big words lol if someone can translate this into lamens terms plz i will really appreciate it i have an app. in like 4 wks and i dont want to wait so long to find out THANK YOU:

THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS ON THE PAPER:
Uilizing the GE Silhouette HR, anterior and posterior erect views were obtained of the dorsal and lumbar spine inlucing the iliac crest.

There is scoliois of the doral spine convexity to the right. Utilizing T4 and
T10 vertebral bodies as markers, the scoliotic curve appeares to be app. 35 degrees . there is scoliosis of the dorsal lumbar spine convexity to the left. Utillizing t100 and L3 vertebral as markers, the scoliotic curvarture is app. 51
    degrees

Ther is no sign to suggest fracture, compression deformity, or abnormalities such as boney bur or hemivertebra. This scoliosis is probably on an idiopathis basis.

    Impression:

1.Idiopathic mid doral dextroscoliosis. the spinal cuvature is app. 35 degrees

2.Dorsal lumbar levoscoliosis. The scoliotic curbature is app. 51 degrees

Is this bad or REALLY bad i dunno what to think?

i think surgery will prolly be in my future tho...

    Hi...

51 degrees is borderline for surgery, because your curves may or may not ever increase. I'm guessing that your specialist will advice you to wait and get an x-ray in another year or two to see if your curve has increased before advising one way or the other.

    Good luck!

    Linda

Like Linda said, your doctor will probably advise you to wait and see what your curve does. Here are a few helpful sites about scoli:

      www.iScoliosis.com
www.spinekids.com <-- the forum there is really good for kids
      and this is a site I made...www.freewebs.com/scoliosis_info

There are more but I'm spacing on them right now...but those sites don't have a lot of medical mumbo jumbo
I'm Karin. I had surgery for my scoliosis on October 13, 2005, and am doing well! I formerly wore a providence brace and did PT for treatment.

I'm not exactly sure what idiopathic mid doral dextroscoliosis and dorsal lumbar levoscoliosis really are... I've always been told straight forward that I have idiopathic scoliosis. And even though your curves sound severe enough to have surgery, I don't think it's that bad. My curves are in the 60's now and I have a large rotational curve, and my surgery is scheduled for November 14th this year.

And I strongly suggest going to http://spinekids.com/boards/index.php because it rocks and there are a ton of other people around our age with scoli and they just have totally helped me understand everything and made me more confident in the surgery. So, when in doubt, go to spinekids.

Yes, so anyway, I hope you have a lot of luck with your back... and if you haven't, check out spinekids.

Boston Brace for 3 1/2 years...

Stopped wearing brace once curves got to 54* and 31*

Decided on surgery in mid-August of 2005

Had surgery on Novmeber 14, when the curves were in the mid 60's

Now I only have one curve of about 20*!

          Hi lil..,

          Here is what I think:

          1. Idiopathic(Scoliosis of unknown cause)mid(middle...could be in your Thoracic spine where you have vertabraes T-1 through T-12)dorsal(back)dextroscoliosis(scoliosis toward or on the right hand side).

          2. Dorsal (back) lumbar (there are 5 lumbar vertabraes L-1 through L-5) levoscoliosis (scoliosis toward or on the left hand side).

Hope this helps and I hope this is correct. I looked up the words in the dictionary. I am not a medical professional.

          Kindest Regards,
          Gail

whether or not you need surgery depends on how quickly your curve is increasing (and it may or may not do so)

the basic meaning of that stuff has already been said: you have a lumbar curve of 51* and a thoracic curve of 35* that last sentence where it says "there is no sign to suggest fracture..." basically confirms your curve is due to scoliosis and not a traumatic injury (breaking your back in an accident)

i hope you're due another consultation soon so that you can discuss it with your doctor - make sure you write a list of questions you want to ask and make a note of the answers

            another great website is: scoliosis-support.org
            diagnosed aged 14 (2001)
braced from july 2001 to february 2003 to hold curves

Discharged by surgeon july 11th 2007 (aged 20 and almost 2 years post-op)
