    Appointment with specialist

I found out last week that my rod is broken. I saw a specialist today and heard a lot of what I have read on this forum! Thanks for all of that! Basically the pain could be from the lack of fusion or from the premature degenerative (sp?) disc that has developed due to the fact that i only have one vertebrate that isn't fused. So I am taking Mobic and seeing him again in 3 months. Basically my options are to leave it be or have everything removed and the unfused spot refused, but that doesnt garantee anything because of my disc problems. So I'm a bit distrought know now that there may be no solution to my problem. But things could be worse and at least the medicine is helping a bit.

    Hi Jenlw,

I did respond to your post earlier and can also do the same thing as you, and I was also told to live with the broken rod unless I had too much pain, but the pain is growing wich is why I'm getting surgery. Too much clicking and grinding and also some inflammation as well as not wanting something broken in my body, besides the fact that my fusion could be faling and I want to add fusion if needed.

My ortho wants to take out the rod if I don't have a failed fusion(unlikely), or put a new one, wich I'm not too thrilled about. I prefer having the lower piece removed so that the clicking could stop and add fusion if needed. I had a tomogram done with no proof of pseudo arthtritis(failed fusion), but even those tests are not 100% accurate.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the response! Clicking and grinding? Yeah that would be it for me. I don't have that and the pain has lessened with the medication, but I still don't like having something broken in my back. I have another appointment with him in November and figure it can't hurt to take some time to think about it. Thanks again!
