You'll do fine withyour pregnancy. My main problems I came when my doctors disagreed with me on when they "thought" I became I became pregnant and I "knew" I became pregnant. I was carrying triplets, lost one and then ended up with complications from there. That is what ended me to the point of an emergency C-section. I would of liked to have a vaginal birth, but it wasn't in the cards. But my twins were normal weights. 6lbs.1oz. and 7lbs.8oz.

You will do just fine. I'm happy for you! Trust me. Not everyone, in fact, most don't go through what I went through.

Congrats! I hope all is going well!

      Pain?

Has anyone sufferd pain from their scoliosis? Before pregnancy? after? Me and my husband were thinking about children, but I am worried about my back and what will happen. I was diagnosed when I was 13 and they said it was too late for a brace, and that I needed surgery. I of course was too scared so I did not have it done. I took pain meds. 2 or 3 times a day for 6 years. One day (About 8 or 9 months ago) I decided I had had enough, So I started to wean myself off of them slowley (It took me about a month) and before I knew it I was off of them. I don't have too much pain now, guess maybe cause it has stopped growing?? It does hurt when I do things like was dishes, sit or stand for to long. But it does not affect my daily life to much now a-days. Anywho... I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experiance and has been pregnant since then. And how did it go? Any advice or stories for me?

Check with a scoliosis specialist first

        Dear Kwalkup,

If you haven't had your scoliosis checked on recently, I would encourage you to see one and find our where your curves are at, how they have been progressing, and what the dr. recommends as far as treating it. Then, tell him that you are thinking about starting a family and are wondering about the timing of it.

If you are already in a lot of pain from your scoliosis, it will only increase during the pregnancy because of the extra weight and strain on the muscles, ligaments, spine, discs, etc. That is why it is so important to have an evaluation first. If they feel you are going to need surgery, the best time to have it is BEFORE you have small children in your home to care for. If you are not a surgical candidate, the dr. can refer you to a physical therapist to prescribe stretches and exercises to strengthen your back and muscles so that you are in the best possible shape before carrying a child. This will minimize pain and spasms during the pregnancy and after.

        Good luck to you.
