  • 'Hunch' on one side post surgery - Is this normal??!

    Hey everyone,

It's my first time here... I've had rods put in to correct a curvature of the spine 7yrs ago, my curvature was quite bad and the top half of my spine was curving into my right hand side. After my surgery I noticed that i now have a 'hunch' on the right hand side of my back - it's quite confidence shattering and i've been so embarassed to bring it up (even with my spinal consultant at the time) Is this normal? Can anything be done?

Lucky for me I have quite long hair so when I wear it down (all the time) it covers my hunch but it still gets to me... has anyone else got this? How are you coping? Is there anyway to fix this?

    Love

    M,
If you are really bothered about your hunch, please bring it up to your specialist. There may an underlying problem that needs to be looked into.

I can truly understand the confidence shattering feeling you have. My 16 year old daughter just had surgery on 3/15/05 for Scheuermann's Kyphosis. She used to come home from school in tears because the kids teased her about her hunch. She was teased so unmercifully that she became very depressed. Today she said "I am beautiful and no one can laugh at my back again." It makes me cry when I think about what she said. So please, for yourself, talk to your specialist about it.

    I am praying for you.

    'til later,
    Nikki
