    Vitamin D

I have known about vitamin D for a really long time and just recently started taking it. (Go figure) It's plastered all over the web, just google "Vitamin D scoliosis" and you will see that scoliosis patients are deficient on this one. Below is a writeup from the Hey clinic...

Since I don't have too many unfused levels left, I figured I would start on 2000 IU of Vitamin D3 gummies to try to help out with the disc herniations in my neck.

And I must say, after a few days so far so good. I can turn my head now without all the popping.

There are countless articles and studies online on this subject matter. I have read that 75% of the planet is deficient on Vitamin D.

I have been taking Vitamin D (D3) since around age 40. Being female, my orthoped suggested it early on and I come from a family history of osteoporosis . For years I took 4000 IU in addition to what was already in the Calcium tablets and any other vitamin that I take. A couple years ago I asked my spine surgeon about it - he said he takes 5000 IU per day. Where we live we don't get nearly enough natural Vitamin D. I upped mine to 5000 IU.

When I get my blood work done, my Vitamin D levels are in the "normal" range - but without supplements I'd be very low.

Kathy, I never targeted specific vitamins.... I would take the occasional multi-vitamin but never noticed anything other than maybe an increase in appetite. You eat like a horse, you have to be getting your vitamin's right? I guess not. It seems there are very specific ways of getting vitamin D.

I have had some periodontal problems with a 2nd molar and saw the vitamin B recommendation on a periodontal site. I have been going heavy on the dental with brushings and water flossings with listerine 3-4X per day. My teeth are super clean these days, but before the Vitamin D, I was still struggling with gum rawness and on the edge of infection. Perio disease down deep on the teeth is beyond the reach of flossing. It's not easy to deal with. I have been through a lot of periodontal sites. I also have taken Amoxicillan a few times over the last 2 years fighting this tooth battle which I don't like doing.

Vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin. COVID has kept me inside mostly out of the sun, so no vitamin D there.

I drink Soy or Almond milk (I'm lactose intolerant) usually with my favorite granola which is sold at Whole Foods. Since the lockdown, I have not driven over to Whole Foods in months and thus not drinking any Almond milk (which is fortified with Vitamin D).

My mouth and my neck has cleared up, (in 1 week) and I can turn my head again. (I have taken no diclofenac since I was in South America).

I can't believe it, this is a miracle!

    Thanks for posting.

Now I have to wonder how my pain would have been if I had taken vitamin D before my surgeries.
