Just a FYI I have used Chinese acupuncture off and on for many years. Personally I would use only a practitioner trained in the Chinese method. Yes itís expensive ($125 last year) but effects are temporary & depends upon your condition. Itís no longer effective for me.

Most pain remedies seem to lose their effectiveness. That's why there are so many different ones, I guess. I had injections and those eventually stopped working.

Its almost like being hungry and starving and eating anything that comes across the table. Well, almost anything....depends on how hungry you are. The surgeons and doctors usually have great insurance people that work for them. Ask them, and get a referral. Some Insurance plans will sometimes pay for Massages and Chiropractic, PT and so forth. Ask your doctor. There are no guarantees that anything will work for pain on a permanent basis. All we can do is try. Many times in the past all I wanted was a break from pain, even if it was for a few hours so I can get some sleep.

Availability of certain items can run short if people hoard and buy up in a panic state. People like 3M will sell masks to the highest bidder, even if its China....
Its the trade deals. This is a great example on how these deals can end up being a double edged sword.

I eventually found some toilet paper at Walmart. The person working there told me they get shipments every day, and its all sold off by 9AM. Your chances are better by shopping early in the morning. There are also less people which is exactly what I like when shopping....In and out fast. The virus also affects production figures when COVID hits these plants.

I had a friend with a 3D printer print me a Rowan mask. This is what I am using when I venture out. Its not a replacement for an N95 mask. But I do use furnace filter material that is rated for bateria and viruses. I guess it offers some protection. Its probably going to protect others more than it will protect me.

At the start of the shortages my husband lucked out online and scored two huge multipaks of toilet paper at a Wegman's that isn't even close to our house. We're surprised they even delivered to us. The stuff got left in our driveway unbagged in plain sight. I was terrified someone would come along and steal it from us, even use violence to secure that toilet paper, and I made my husband bring it in right away.

Hoarding is contagious. We were really low on toilet paper and we felt if everyone else is hoarding, we have to overshop a little, too, because who knows when more will be available again?

That Rowan mask has holes in it for breathing, right? Isn't that going to let some virus in?

No, the intake is through the filter material behind the grill. But no mask is a guarantee. Its not really a substitute for social distancing.

The surgeons are using triage on surgeries. Not only do we have the existing complications that can happen with spine, now they have to add COVID-19 to that list. And coughing 3000 times per day is hard enough. Just coughing after fusion surgery can be especially scary during immediate recovery. There is little reason to proceed with surgery unless the odds of success are high. COVID complicates the decision making process.

Wouldnt it be something to do a surgery, not get COVID in the hospital, get released, and then get it after you are released from the hospital?

Notice the state of Nevada has no mention of wearing any masks on prevention tips but I am still wearing mine for that added protection for myself and others.

Some do, and some do not. Hot water does not, but I was also having some issues with hot soaks, probably dehydration. You really have to drink copious amounts of water when you boil that pain away since you lose water so quickly. Like a quart of water in 20 minutes. This is why small children should not be allowed in hot tubs.

Long term opoids are not really recommended for long term chronic pain. After 5 weeks, Percoset and Oxy was just not cutting the mustard for me at 100mg plus per day. The constipation was causing more pain than the spine. Nutrition worked a whole lot better after I terminated (and short frequent walks)

I never took opoids leading up to my surgeries. NSAIDS yes, Opoids no. I also formed a bunch of stones (gall and kidney) so one needs to be aware.

On acupuncture or acupressure, I dont think the scientific community has anything worthy or proven from what I remember,? but thats all relative. The world was flat at one point. You cant dismiss because the wrong ideas never came to frutiution. Many ideas, the invention and discovery process, happen by mistake. This is why documentation is so important. If you think outside the box, its not logical to remember since its a new concept. There has to be a reason why something works....Even if most spine treatments are not supported by strong scientific evidence. "We see what we are taught to see". -Charcot

We have to accept the reality that even though certain methods have varying rates of success, its never a black and white thing. We take what we can get and make the best of it. Know the tricks of the trade, and know about timing and how important it can be for certain scoliosis patients. Timing is everything.

"Pain is an indicator of suffering organs". -Charcot
Pain is a warning sign and if it doesnt resolve itself, or its a heavy pain, something has to be done. If a modality is tried and does not work, something else needs to be explored. Curves dont mean too much, but pain is your signal. Scoliosis patients especially in pain need to be evaluated by a scoliosis surgeon. It doesnt mean your having surgery, but its best to talk about these things, talk about pain with your surgeon. They will look with X-Rays, MRI's and CT's to see if they can locate your pain producer.

I agree that trying to cough out a virus is bad for the spine just after fusion surgery. I'm wondering also if a recent spine surgery (or any big surgery) is a heightened risk for getting through a COVID-19 infection. That recent surgery would qualify as one of those preexisting conditions that can prevent the body from properly fighting off the virus.

I wouldn't want to be sick with anything during a spine recovery.....or at least on any big surgery. No way, Jose.

I lost 40# in 40 days during my recovery.....My body was in overdrive during recovery for the first 6 weeks. Lots of healing going on, front and back.

I would imagine one would have to have something pretty serious to get a green light. If you get into a plane crash, tell them your having trouble breathing and they will take you right away. Or, go into the ER and tell them you can not pee. That one works great, bumps you up to the front of the line. (With the most pain you will ever feel in your lifetime) Renal colic from a stone can be mindblowing, and with scoliosis my back was shot beyond belief. Examples of human triage.

I had that happen with my cat. He was sitting on the litter box for long periods of time. I called the vet, they told me to bring him in right away, its an emergency. He had FUS from the magnesium in the cheap cat food. An example of feline triage. My cat went through the same pain I went through. Wow!

Funny how after they knocked me out with a shot, my spinal musculature got a break, and it really helped the scoliosis pain. (Before my spine surgeries. Pre-fused scoliosis pain)

Are you talking about a shot for the kidney problem or your spine? If Spine what kind of shot?

You know Tina, I don't remember what they gave me. Probably a morphine shot as it knocked me out in seconds. This was for the kidney stone renal colic pain.

I also had a laser lithotripsy procedure in May 2007 and the general anesthesia from that surgery also helped with the scoliosis pains. It had a relaxing effect, so that was twice where I was knocked out and it helped a lot with the aches and binding of pre fusion scoliosis.

There were times I just wanted to be knocked out for a break, but you can't really get this done for scoliosis curves....You have to have something else wrong.
