  • Post Surgery 9 Years

Well I haven’t updated on my spine in a while. It’s been 9 years since I went under the knife for my scoliosis. I remember the day I had my surgery I was scared and excited at the same time. I was thinking geez after 7 year of dealing with this I’m finally getting it surgically corrected. I was taken to the OR around 9:45 am. The surgery took place at UC Davis Medical center it was preformed at the time Dr Gupta who since moved back to the Midwest. The 1st 5 days after surgery I don’t really remember. I pretty much only remember the last day the hospital. I was had standing x-ray films, I meet with Dr Gupta, had my last PT session. I had multiple follow up appointments my most recent was actually more of a emergency. I slipped in the bathtub and the fused area of my spine bent forward. Every thing checked out fine. Now my family probably found out what caused my Scoliosis.

I know what you are saying....I think we get pretty good at adapting to scoliosis. You have done well.

I went camping at the incredible Eastern Sierras south of Reno last week, (By Yosemite) and forgot my long shoe horn. I have been getting lazy these days by using my shoe horn and putting on my shoes without this tool took some extra effort (sigh).....but I did see a very large Bald Eagle at Twin Lakes, Ca which made the trip worth while.

You cant help but notice these majestic birds with the white head and tail, they are so stunning.....perhaps they set many examples of freedom, hope, and strength etc that one thinks about....It was almost like he was sending me a message to stay strong and exercise resilience as I have been slacking lately. They will grasp a large fish they cannot lift out of a lake, and swim with their wings to get dinner to shore. Sound familiar? Almost like when we are in pain, we also find resolve, find a solution in coping with our afflictions.

Congratulations on 9 years, Kara! I am only 3 years out and it is people like you that are an inspiration to me. I love your positive attitude and how you don't left the negative things in life get in your way. You are a very strong girl!
