  • Hip replacement post spinal fusion with pelvic fixation

I am 11.5 yrs post long fusion with pelvic fixation. Very pleased with my back, no pain. My right hip has been bothering me for some months now. Have appt to see local ortho who specializes in hips but wondering, if long fusion with pelvic fixation associated with eventual hip problems? Hip replacement?

I always felt my gait was a bit changed after the surgery and feel my pelvis is tilted forward. Not as flexible on my right side as my left side.

    Any advice appreciated.

Co- Existing spine and hip disease

Jan, I cant help from wondering myself, but not seeing too much on this subject however,

Here is an interesting study.....388 patients (Spine patients no mention of scoliosis patients)

      https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3377139/

      Real quick....some notes....

32.5% of patients over age 50 have "significant" hip pathology. Including Osteoararthritis.

72% had spinal stenosis Wow! (I guess its not just us)

98% diagnostic accuracy with a KUB (Coronal x-ray) KUB to include hips along with spine to top of kidneys. (Spare MRI costs?) MRI co-pays can be pricey these days!!!!

      Melissa....(You mentioned foot drop)
In some patients, treatment of one disorder has led to the development of another disorder, for example, development of foot drop secondary to spinal pathology after hip arthroplasty.11

Osteoarthritis (Wear and tear) looks like it increases with age. (for seniors) NSAID's are recommended for this pain....

My gait get's altered with pain....Also, my gait is worse after just getting up from a chair, (first few steps) then it usually returns to normal.

Let us know how things go....

      Thx
