    Advancing Age & Scoliosis

Was wondering if there are others here that had spinal fusions 40+ years ago & how how are your bodies holding up as you advance in age. I had an almost total fusion (bottom 3 discs not fused) when I was 5 years old (55 years ago)(No rods). I have led a fairly active life, many of the normal activities as a child, golfed, travels etc as an adult. Now as I near 60 it seems my body is falling apart. Muscle weakness, numbness of hands & legs, fatigue, shortness of breath (attributed by Pulmonary dr as Scoliosis Pulmonary Compression).

So would love to hear from others.

    Tesh,

I am 11 years post and age 60. In my signature next year, i will have to change it to "49 year old male, age 61, the new 61"

The fatigue has been incredible lately for me. And sleeping 8 hours through isn't happening, so I am up at 4 AM each morning and whooped at noon.

No acute or alarming pains, which is a blessing, but symptoms typical with spinal cord and or CNS disease or disorder or impingement. Dizziness, headaches, fatigue, numbness, tingling etc. My neck is herniated on multiple levels.

I think that most seniors don't really like talking about their ailments. Its something that I am very open to, exact descriptions of our afflictions living with scoliosis. I think its important to be open about these things....

    Thanks for posting

    Ed
