  • Just Checking In!

    Hi everyone,

I have not been in this forum for such a long time...a few years. I had my spinal fusion almost 7 years ago and I have to say that I feel pretty great now!

It was a rough road for quite a few months after surgery. My planned 7-10 inpatient hospital days extended to 3 weeks due to complications, and it took a few months to feel well enough to return to work. But...I have to say it was worth it.

I still have issues with my neck - the pain has subsided and I've learned to live with it. My lumbar spine below the fusion is getting worse due to disc degeneration and the stress of the fusion above it. Dr. Gupta warned me about this so I try my best not to make the pain/discomfort worse. I hope that I do not need to be eventually fused to the sacrum. Uggggh.

Working out at the gym really helps and I recommend it to all post surgery patients! I've also been swimming and I have to say it is not easy after being fused. I can't do the breast stroke or freestyle anymore due to my neck and have to do the side stroke or back stroke. I also can't float as well as I used to so I'm not sure what THAT's all about!

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi to everyone and wish everyone well.

    Hi Laurie

Yes, it has been a while.....glad everything turned out ok.

It seems that most of us that are fused up high complain about our necks.....I had 2 cervical herniation's that suddenly decided to say hello (Out LOUD) 4 years ago, and with the right meds things are ok. Sigh....It was another miracle.....

    Good to see you posting...
